Chapter 171
Amelia looked at the cold, hard look in Christopher’s eyes.
She was always chasing after him, demanding a divorce and asking him to sign the papers.
Yet, he had been dragging his feet on the divorce petition.
From the first day of her rebirth, she asked him to sign the divorce papers that he resolutely ignored, thinking that she was just throwing a tantrum.
However, he seemed to finally agree to it because of Nicole. Amelia had crossed a line, which was why he finally asked for a divorce and wanted a clean break from her.
Amelia nodded calmly. “Sure. I’ll see you at the clerk’s office on Monday morning.”
The divorce petition would take a long time. If he wanted a divorce as well, it would only make things easier and faster.
It would also save her much time and unnecessary trouble. She would finally be free after divorcing him.
Christopher looked at Amelia and shot her a cold smile. “Don’t be late.”
Amelia turned around to leave without a word.
Christopher looked at the document on the chair next to him. He picked it up, but instead of looking through it,
he discarded it into the trash can.
Just then, Nicole came back from an ice pack and saw him throwing something into the trash can. “What did you just throw away?”
“Something useless.”
Nicole didn’t ask any further about it. Instead, she said, “Regarding Evelyn…”
Christopher cut her off. “We’ll talk about it another time.”
Amelia heaved a sigh of relief as she sat by the bedside. She was finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Looking at her daughter’s pale face, she caressed Evelyn’s cheeks, her heart aching for her.
Just then, Dorothy appeared at the door, seemingly having rushed over. She felt remorseful at the sight of Evelyn lying on the bed.
“Mia, it’s all my fault,” she said with guilt. “Nicole and Chris brought Nathan out to play. I thought Evelyn might be bored staying with me, so I allowed her to go with them. I really didn’t expect something like this to happen.”
“Grandma, it’s so late. You should be resting at home instead of coming all the way here.”
Amelia didn’t respond to Dorothy’s comment about Evelyn getting hurt.

Dorothy looked at the calm yet indifferent expression on Amelia’s face. She looked down, still racked with remorse and guilt.
“Are you…blaming me? I’m old and useless now, it seems.”
“Grandma,” Amelia said. “You’re advanced in years. Don’t take it to heart.”
She couldn’t say anything more than that.
Dorothy didn’t know the complexities of her relationship with Christopher.
However, Evelyn’s accident frightened her deeply. From now on, Amelia would never allow Evelyn to be alone with anyone in the Zephyr family.
Amelie didn’t blame Dorothy. Neither did she make her stance clear.
Dorothy’s brows were tightly knit as she stared at Evelyn lying on the bed, her heart aching for the little girl.
“Evelyn is fine,” Amelia assured Dorothy. “It’s too late, so you really should go back and rest.”
Dorothy looked at Amelia, hesitating to speak.
“You and Chris…”
“Let me send you back,” Christopher said as he entered the ward, cutting Dorothy off mid-sentence. He looked at Dorothy and added, “You’re getting old. Don’t keep tormenting yourself.”
Dorothy glared at him. “You didn’t take good care of Evelyn.”
“Yes,” Christopher admitted. “I was at fault.”
“Dad, Dad…”
Evelyn suddenly mumbled on the bed. In her dreams, she was calling out for her dad, her brows furrowed tight.
“Mom, does Dad not want me anymore…?”
Christopher looked calmly at Evelyn on the bed, his deep, dark eyes emotionless. He seemed completely unmoved by his daughter’s calls.
Amelia’s breath caught in her throat. She grabbed Evelyn’s hand and gently coaxed, “Good girl, Mom’s right here,”
