“You don’t live with Chris anymore, and you really shouldn’t trouble him since he’s drunk. Let him go back home early and get some rest,” Nicole said.

Amelia didn’t want to kick up a fuss over this. It was impossible to get a cab here, anyway.

“I’d appreciate you arranging a driver to send me home, please.” Amelia didn’t want to stay here a second longer.

Nicole nodded. “Chris, let me arrange for that.”

After Nicole left, Amelia pulled the door open to get out.

“I’m sorry,” Christopher said hoarsely.

Amelia’s hand rested on the door handle.

“Mr. Zephyr, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. I hope you’ll take a closer look next time before making a move. We’re getting divorced. Please keep your boundaries.” 1

With that, Amelia slammed the door shut.

The disgust in her eyes was clear. She had finally seen for herself how wild and depraved Christopher could get.

Perhaps that was how he appeared to the one he loved, namely Nicole.

The way he consoled her was domineering and overbearing.

Amelia sat in Nicole’s car, looking at the raindrops streaming down the window.

She wanted the divorce to be effective immediately once the cooling-off period was over.

Why did thirty days feel like forever?

Amelia sighed.

She looked down at her phone and stared at the calendar. After the thirty days were over, it would be a Monday.

A great day for a divorce.

After Amelia left, the funeral proceedings were about to draw to a close. Only the closest family and friends were left behind.

“Where’s Mia?” Dorothy was about to leave, but didn’t see Amelia around.

Christopher was still feeling rather woozy, and he said softly, “She went back. She had work to do. She bade Nicole goodbye before she left.”

That was only polite of her.

Dorothy frowned. “Why didn’t you send her out? You were here all this time!”

“Mom, Nicole’s feeling very upset. It’s perfectly fine for Chris to stay by her side, since they’re so close. Even Amelia understands that. Why can’t you, too? Also, Nicole can’t handle all these alone. It’s good that Chris is around to help her tie up loose ends,” Lucia said, trying to justify Christopher’s actions.

From the bottom of her heart, Lucia preferred Nicole to be her daughter-in-law. She had thought that Nicole wanted to be her daughter-in-law, too.

Only a talent in the technology industry like her was worthy of her son and of their powerful family.

Amelia, on the other hand, appeared from nowhere and snatched the position of Mrs. Zephyr using underhanded means.

Every single daughter-in-law of the city’s powerful and influential families was presentable and competent.

However, Lucia never mentioned Amelia’s name whenever she chatted with the ladies of other families.

What could she say?

There was nothing good she could say of Amelia, especially compared to the stellar academic achievements of

other ladies.

Compared to that, Amelia…

Lucia found it hard to lift her head high and proud amongst her friends because of that.

Dorothy glared at Christopher.

“No matter how close they are, they have to observe some boundaries. Remember to go home no matter how late the night gets and call Mia to tell her what you’re doing. Husbands and wives have to be honest with each other. Did you two recently have a fight?”

Amelia would always hang around Christopher, but she seemed to be colder and more distant as of late. They didn’t seem to be as close to each other recently.

Christopher didn’t seem too bothered and said, “Our children are all so big. What can we fight about?”

Dorothy scoffed. “That had better be!”

After bidding the Randalls goodbye, Dorothy took her leave.

Nicole looked at Christopher.

“Chris, you drank so much today. You don’t need to stay back to keep me company. You really should get some rest… Since you can’t drive, why don’t you go upstairs and get some rest?” 1
