Chapter 226

Christopher paused in his tracks. He didn’t turn Nicole down.

However, there was only one pair of scissors on stage.

Both of them stood before the ribbon, with Christopher right next to Nicole. He looked down and held Nicole’s hand as they cut the ribbon together.

The reporters off the stage captured the scene with their cameras.

Having more than one person cut the ribbon at the same time wasn’t uncommon. In fact, it was often done when companies struck up a partnership or when they were newly opened.

The thing was, Christopher and Nicole looked like a match made in heaven standing next to each other. Their movement somehow seemed strangely intimate.

The looks on some people’s faces changed. They seemed to realize what was going on, but didn’t expose it.

People started whispering under their breath.

“Mr. Zephyr truly loves Mrs. Zephyr.”

“Ms. Randall and Mr. Zephyr are an industry benchmark indeed. This husband-and-wife pair is outstanding indeed.”

Amelia could hear everything these people were whispering to each other.

She remained unaffected and looked down at her notebook to take notes.

During the question-and-answer segment, one of the reporters threw a question.

“I heard that this company was established for Mrs. Zephyr. I also heard that Mr. and Mrs. Zephyr have been married for many years and had a pair of twins. However, it remains a mystery who Mrs. Zephyr is. Mr. Zephyr, is Ms. Randall…?”

The reporter’s question moved from professional into personal realms.

Nicole kept her smile on her face as she turned to look at Christopher. She wanted to know his answer to that,

too.

After all, he was about to divorce Amelia very soon.

He chose to go ahead with the divorce right after Nicole came back. She knew clearly what that meant.

They had Nathan, too.

Nathan was her biological son, while he was Nathan’s father. 1

Christopher’s eyes dimmed at the question, but he soon recovered and said with a smile, “Let’s not talk about personal affairs at a work event. My wife is shy, so don’t ask that anymore.”

Everyone started teasing Christopher for being so quick to jump to his wife’s defense.

“Seems like you really dote on your wife, Mr. Zephyr,” the reporter said with a smile.

Other reporters started asking him a slew of work-related questions.

Jasper sat offstage, looking down at his phone screen, clearly not interested in the reporters’ questions. He did, however, look up at the stage at the mention of Mrs. Zephyr.

Christopher’s gaze seemed to shift in their direction for a split second.

However, Jasper didn’t get a good look as they were too far from the stage.

Then again, Christopher and Amelia weren’t officially divorced yet. Announcing Nicole’s status was equivalent to admitting that she was a third party to their marriage that was not yet annulled.

Jasper put his phone away. “Given how grand today’s event was, Christopher definitely wants Megatech to take off right from the get-go.”

Many people at the event spoke to Jasper today, highlighting that Megatech was going to be Nova Nine’s direct competitor.

Everyone could tell. They wouldn’t be ignorant about it, either.

Amelia’s face was cold. “It’s their business how grand they want to make this event. We just need to do our work well.”

She had taken a lot of notes earlier and kept in mind Megatech’s company structure and organization. She didn’t look upset at all that her own “husband” opened a company for another woman.

In her eyes was only ambition and a competitive streak.

Jasper looked hesitant for a moment before raising a hand and giving Amelia a thumbs-up.

“Today, we have specially invited Mr. Hale to usher in the festivities of Megatech’s opening. Let’s welcome him with a warm round of applause!

“Mr. Hale is a pioneer of our country’s science and technology field, and has been devoted to scientific research throughout his entire career. With his blessing, Megatech’s journey from here on is bound to be a success. Hopefully, with achievements as stellar as those of Mr. Hale himself.”

The mention of Mr. Hale’s name sent shock rippling through Amelia and Jasper. They had never heard from their mentor that he’d be coming today.

“Seems like Christopher is really going all out for Nicole. He even managed to invite Mr. Hale here,” Jasper said.
