Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 227

Chapter 227

Given such strong support, anyone would be able to thrive.

Nicole was capable to begin with, anyway. With such strong backing, any ordinary graduate with some semblance of leadership abilities would be able to lead outstanding scientific research personnel.

A leader of a company didn’t need to be extremely capable. He just needed to sit in his position, and his subordinates would naturally work hard for him.

That was precisely what Christopher was doing right now; he was pushing Nicole into such a position in the upper echelons of society.

He was paving the way for her and pushing her to new heights.

He was perfectly justifiable in doing so.

He had brought Nicole to many events with him, just so that his move of pushing her up to this position was convincing enough.

Whether Nicole was truly capable or not, her reputation would already precede her.

Jasper smirked. “Crossing the boundary into leadership is something others can’t even imagine doing after slogging it out their entire lives. While some other people…have it way too easy.”

Amelia pursed her lips pensively.

She was no longer emotionally affected by anything they did right now.

She was just curious.

Did Christopher hate her? If not, why did he have to target her to such a cruel extent?

He must hate Amelia for taking Nicole’s position by marrying him, stripping him of his happiness, and causing his beloved woman to have to live in the shadows for fear of being labeled a homewrecker.

Aside from hatred, Amelia couldn’t think of any reason why Christopher was repeatedly trying to exact revenge

on her.

Seeing the mixed emotions in Amelia’s eyes, Jasper asked, “What’s the matter?”

Amelia shook her head. “Nothing.”

Now, things were different.

Amelia found herself and her thoughts simply laughable.

They were on the verge of divorce right now. Christopher and Nicole had every right to be a couple, both in name and substance.

Amelia and Christopher should part as amicably as they could. She didn’t want her personal affairs affecting work.

Christopher did so much for Nicole just so that Amelia could apologize to Nicole and submit to her.

He hated Amelia, after all.

Amelia dipped her head and smirked coldly.

Come to think of it, she had never had a good chat with Christopher.

They were physically intimate during their years of marriage, but they had never had a deep emotional

connection.

Back then, Amelia had naively thought that with her painstaking efforts, she would be able to melt his cold heart one day.

But now, she realized that during their years of marriage, he kept going overseas just to meet his beloved woman and go on dates with her and their son.

Amelia didn’t even want to guess whether Nathan was Christopher’s biological child, but she had to consider that possibility.

Everything was coming to an end, she consoled herself.

After Mr. Hale had delivered his speech on stage and given them his blessings, everyone in the crowd burst into warm applause.

As he walked off the stage, Christopher and Nicole chatted alone with Mr. Hale.

“I heard that you’ve been recruiting students recently, Mr. Hale. Nicole just returned from abroad and is extremely knowledgeable in this field. She has been reaching out to you in hopes that you’d take her in as your disciple,” Christopher said warmly.

“Where did you hear that from?” Mr. Hale said with a smile. “I’m not intending to recruit new students. In fact, I’m going to retire and just want to go home and relax for the rest of my days.”

“Chris, since Mr. Hale doesn’t want any more new students, let’s not put him in a difficult spot…” Nicole chimed in. “But Mr. Hale, I heard that you previously took in a female student. Everything was going well, but she insisted on getting married mid-way and angered you thoroughly. I trust you’re not deliberately targeting me because of that.”

Mr. Hale looked at her, his eyes narrowing into slits.

Nicole met his gaze.

“Mr. Hale, I’ve always regarded you very highly as the benchmark and bellwether of the scientific research field. Since you don’t want to take in new students, I won’t force you.

“However, would you be willing to give me some pointers on my thesis before your retirement? I do need some accomplishments to my name in the domestic field.

“I’ve devoted myself to this industry overseas over the years, and I came back to bring glory to my home country.

“Mr. Hale, I’d dare say we’re of the same mind and heart in this regard.”
