Amelia looked down and wiped her wet hands on a napkin, listening to Lucia ramble on.

Lucia thought she had followed them here, probably in a bid to kick up a fuss over Christopher.

What a joke!

Amelia lifted her hand and flung the napkin into the trash can. She then looked indifferently at Lucia.

“You’re not worried about embarrassing yourself by blatantly celebrating your success here, but you’re worried about me kicking up a fuss and embarrassing you?”

Cold irony filled Amelia’s eyes.

Lucia’s eyes turned dark.

The woman before her seemed to be a completely different person, exuding a cold and threatening aura. She was miles apart from that servile and meek daughter-in-law of the past.

Lucia could sense Amelia challenging her authority as her mother-in-law and elder.

She took a deep breath, her tone cold.

“What kind of attitude is that? Do you know who you’re talking to? Chris must be spoiling you recently, condoning your rude and arrogant behavior. Don’t you have any respect for your elders? You’d better know your place and give up any thoughts of trying to play any tricks!”

Amelia burst out laughing.

“I have a clear conscience. If it’s so shameful to have Nicole around, you should have kept things under wraps. Why fear others knowing about it when the deed’s already done? Do you really think the position of Mrs. Zephyr is that coveted, and that everyone wants it?”

Amelia couldn’t be bothered to argue with Lucia. It was nothing but a waste of time.

With that, she turned to leave.

Lucia’s mind went blank as shock registered on her face. She finally managed to raise a hand and point at Amelia’s back profile.

“You…!” she yelled.

She put her hand down huffily when she saw that Amelia had no intention of turning back.

She scoffed. How outrageous of Amelia!

Christopher and Nicole were just innocent childhood friends. No, they were nothing but good friends. They even called each other brothers!

Amelia was one with her mind in the gutter and acting so haughty, throwing her weight around. She didn’t have an ounce of magnanimity and graciousness that Mrs. Zephyr should have!

Lucia strode back to her private room in a huff.

“Mrs. Zephyr, what got you so mad?” Nicole came over to console Lucia with a wine glass in hand. “Tell me who provoked you. I’ll take revenge for you.

Nicole was poised and elegant, sensible and courteous.

In Lucia’s opinion, she was much better than Amelia.

“You really are the more sensible one,” Lucia said, feeling her anger dissipate. She held Nicole’s hand and caressed it gently. “You should have been my daughter-in-law right from the start. Someone used underhanded means to snatch your place, and has the cheek to act innocent.”

Nicole pursed her lips.

“Mrs. Zephyr… I know you like me, but Chris and I are just brothers. Why don’t you treat me as your daughter? You can have one more daughter by your side.”

“Sure, sure,” Lucia said, patting the back of Nicole’s hand, a bright smile on her face.

Luke turned to look at Christopher with a smile. “Your mom just gave you a new younger sister.”

Christopher sipped on his wine, indifferent. He didn’t express any opinions about it.

However, the look on his face seemed to turn dark.

Luke smirked.

He knew that Christopher was angry.

Christopher clearly wanted to marry Nicole, but with Lucia acknowledging her as a daughter, wouldn’t that present an obstacle to him?

Luke sat by the side, sipping on his wine as he watched the scene unfold before him.

Pursuing Nicole might have its challenges.

He wanted to see how Christopher managed to do it.
