Chapter 84
“What do you feel like eating tonight?” Christopher asked Nicole. “Let’s start by ordering in the private room.”
If anyone didn’t know the relationship between Christopher and Amelia, they would have thought these two were complete strangers.
Nicole smiled and wrapped the coat tighter around herself. “Sure.”
Amelia ignored him, treating him as someone she didn’t know.
But as they brushed past, Luke caught a whiff of her strong alcohol scent and smirked. “So, after leaving Chris, you’re already out here playing the drinking companion?”
Amelia stopped in her tracks, and her gaze was icy as she shot him a look. “Did you brush your teeth with toilet water this morning? Your breath stinks.”
Jasper opened his mouth to say something, but Amelia didn’t bother. She had no intention of arguing, and she certainly didn’t want Jasper clashing with Luke and the others. She simply took his hand and walked away.
Luke’s expression darkened.
Watching them leave, he muttered, “This woman is something else. Cheating so openly while still married. This is the second time we’ve caught her at it, isn’t it?”
Then, he looked at Christopher. “Aren’t you going to say something, Chris?”
Christopher’s expression remained indifferent, and he said nothing.
Just then, Tania gathered her things and stepped out of the private room.
Nicole looked at Tania in surprise, not expecting to run into her mother in a place like this. Since returning to the country, she had been caught up in work and rarely went home.
Christopher and the others invited Tania to dinner when they noticed her.
“No, thank you. I already ate a little earlier. I just wanted to say a few words to Nikki,” Tania replied.
The men didn’t interrupt; they headed into the private room to place their order, giving the mother and daughter pair some space to talk.
Tania explained that the purpose of her visit here was business negotiations with Nova Nine Technologies.
Nicole frowned. “Nova Nine is pretty prideful. They even rejected my job application.”
“What? Why didn’t you tell me?” Tania gave her a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry. You and Chris are close, and he has plenty of connections. With your qualifications, getting into any company you want will be easy. If it really doesn’t work out, you can always work at the family company.
Nicole shook her head. “I want to rely on my own ability for now. I don’t want to use connections.”
She had gone abroad to gain experience and earned her dual degrees on her own merit, and she planned to make her mark in the domestic aerospace industry the same way-through her own strength.
Nicole’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. “It’s kind of amazing that Jasper is willing to work with your company. After all, he turned me down because of Amelia. I thought he’d do the same to you.”
“That’s a thing?” Tania frowned.

“Amelia doesn’t hold a candle to you in any way. She’s incompetent. You and Chris grew up together. If it weren’t for her, you’d already be his wife.
“Earlier in the private room, she spent the whole time playing the perfect hostess, laughing and drinking with them. She’s probably just some cheap companion. I can’t believe Chris actually let her do such a thing. If the Zephyr family finds out, it’ll be a huge embarrassment for them.”
Tania’s words carried an unspoken implication.
Nicole let out a faint, indifferent smile. She had never taken Amelia seriously. She already knew that Amelia wouldn’t be landing any key position at Nova Nine Technologies. A bachelor’s degree holder was hardly qualified.
“They’re already heading for divorce,” Nicole said lightly.
Tania smiled. “Then that’s a good opportunity. Nathan is your child, and Chris has been helping raise him for years. His feelings for you are obvious. No man would care for a child that long for someone else. Even now that you’re back, he treats you well, supports the family business, and goes out of his way for you. He spoils you endlessly.”
Leaning close, Tania’s expression turned suggestive.
Her voice dropped to a low murmur as she whispered, “Be honest with me. Hasn’t something already happened between you two?”
