Chapter 85

Tania’s question was subtle, but the meaning was clear.

Nicole smiled without answering, her expression full of hidden meaning.

Tania could guess exactly what was going on.

Nicole smoothly changed the subject. “You’ve been raising investments lately, right? How did you end up working with Nova Nine Technologies?”

Tania’s face cooled instantly. “Claire is raising that same investment, and we’re fighting for the same thing. Actually, I was just about to discuss this with you. Neither Claire nor I have actually met the big investor yet. He’s elusive and almost impossible to track down.”

Nicole listened, her face unreadable, only giving a small nod. “I understand. I’ll find a way to handle it.”

Tania knew her daughter was capable and well-versed in business matters.

“Go on inside,” she said. “Don’t keep Chris and the others waiting. We’ll touch base over the phone later.”

The next day at Nova Nine Technologies, Jasper held a stack of documents as he spoke with Winona about renewing a collaboration.

They had an ongoing partnership with Zephyr Group, and some of their internal systems were Zephyr Group’s patented technology. Now the contracts were expiring, and it was time to negotiate a renewal.

Work and personal matters didn’t conflict. Anyone who ignored money was foolish, especially since Zephyr Group’s patents were one of a kind in the industry.

Winona frowned. “Should we tell Mia about this? She’d definitely care. Honestly, I’d love to throttle that scumbag right now.”

“Business is business, personal feelings are personal. If it needs to be discussed, we discuss it.” Amelia pushed the door open and walked in, her gaze firm as she faced them. “Zephyr Group operates in this sector, and they’re doing well in the industry. That means we’ll inevitably cross paths. I can’t avoid it forever just because of my personal connections.”

Winona frowned. “But-”

Amelia raised an eyebrow and smiled at her. “We’re not children. Why get upset over something like this? Who refuses money on principle?”

Businesses that needed attention should be handled. Anyone who passed up profit was foolish.

Zephyr Group was a leader in the field, holding exclusive patents, and its systems relied on those technologies to function. All of it had been independently developed by Zephyr’s top tech expert.

“Until we develop a viable alternative, it’s reckless to cut off opportunities out of anger. Besides, I don’t care, and you don’t need to either,” Amelia continued, her voice steady.

Jasper studied her, impressed by her decisiveness and quiet strength. There was a fierce determination in her, and he could tell it would eventually help her overcome any challenge. For now, she was simply gathering her strength.

It was precisely this resilience and adaptability that earned Jasper’s admiration.

Jasper made the final decision. “Then let’s handle this strictly as business.”

Jasper had already arranged a meeting with Christopher’s assistant.

At the Zephyr Group building, Charles was momentarily surprised when he saw Amelia descending the stairs.

Then, disdain crept into his eyes.

He remembered how boldly Amelia had acted when she resigned. During her time at the company, she was just an unremarkable assistant running errands, entirely focused on Christopher.

Everyone at Zephyr Group could see what she was after. She had only ever wanted to be Christopher’s wife. It wasn’t until Christopher’s girlfriend Nicole returned that she stepped down, realizing she couldn’t compete.

And now, she had the nerve to come back.

Clark glanced at Jasper. “Mr. Langley, please follow me upstairs.”

Amelia trailed behind without hurry, keeping pace as they went up.

Jasper entered the meeting room first.

Clark watched Amelia walk in, a mocking smile on his lips.

So she had found a new target, had she? It looked like she was aiming to become Jasper’s wife now. She really didn’t like to stay loyal to just one man.

In Clark’s eyes, Amelia was nothing but a woman who avoided real work, always looking for shortcuts and using men to climb the ladder.
