Cindy wasn’t surprised. John was the CEO of Henderson Group, after all.
He only attended the main company’s annual party every year and never showed up at events for the listed subsidiaries, much less something like Origin Games, which didn’t even rank among his top companies. There was no reason he would go to their anniversary celebration.
“But…” Pamela trailed off, glancing at Sierra without thinking.
Cindy asked, “But what?”
“If Ms. Bell invites him, Mr. Henderson will probably come,” Pamela said suggestively. “He’s been asking me a lot about her work progress these days. I think he cares about her.”
Everyone went quiet for a second. Their eyes lit up, ready for the gossip.
Jenny looked at them once.
Sierra forced her emotions down and answered calmly.
“You must have misunderstood something, Ms. Sanders. The only reason Mr. Henderson asks is that before I joined, Ivan gave me detailed tasks to complete to see whether I could keep up with everyone. When he texted in the group chat that he was going on a business trip, he also texted me in private and said Mr. Henderson would be taking over the evaluation.”
The moment she finished, the way the others looked at Pamela changed. A simple work matter had been twisted into something that sounded questionable.
Pamela didn’t expect Sierra to react so quickly. With a smile, she said, “I simply thought your old wish from college had come
true.”
Sierra fell silent.
What was this woman trying to do? It was completely impossible to figure out.
“What wish?” someone asked.
“Nothing special. She wanted to work at Henderson Group and earn Mr. Henderson’s recognition,” Pamela said smoothly, as it it were a fact.
Everyone turned their eyes on Sierra, clearly eager to h
ear more.
Sierra, in turn, shot a casual look in Pamela’s direction.
She didn’t say a word and didn’t bother to explain. Her expression, however, was so subtle yet so clear that even people who were bad at reading others could tell exactly what it meant.
Sierra couldn’t be bothered to deal with some crazy woman.
When she sensed things were turning against her, Pamela dropped the subject and used a neutral tone again. “Once you decide on your performance, let me know so I can report it. The deadline is next Monday”
Cindy, who got along with everyone, replied casually, “No problem.”
After Pamela left, everyone still felt a lingering curiosity.
Their instincts told them something big was going on between Pamela and Sierra, but they also knew that getting the full story on a scandal like that wouldn’t be easy.
Cindy leaned closer. “Sierra.”
“Yes?” Sierra answered softly.

“No,” Sierra told the truth.

Except for instances where John intentionally hid his true self, the media coverage of him was scarce. Back then, although Bell Group had some reputation in Jade City, it was nowhere near the level of Henderson Group.
“Then what was Ms. Sanders talking about just now?” Cindy asked again.
