“Solomon!” Norma protested, clearly unhappy.
She couldn’t understand what was so special about Sierra.
Sierra was just another ex–heiress. How did she win John’s affection and now even Solomon’s protection? John rarely spoke to anyone and kept his distance, even from his own family.
“See her out,” Solomon said to his bodyguards. His tone clearly left no room for argument. “She’s not allowed in here again unless I say otherwise.”
“Understood, sir.” The bodyguards acknowledged Solomon’s order and moved to escort her out.
Norma struggled, but it was useless. She could only turn her anger on Sierra as she was dragged away. A moment later, both her voice and her figure were gone.
“She’s been spoiled since she was little. I’ll deal with her later.” Solomon looked at Sierra apologetically as he lay against the bedhead. “I’m sorry about today.”
“It’s fine.” Sierra truly didn’t care that much.
Back in her first year married to John, she had run into Norma at a New Year’s family dinner. John had lost his temper that time.
Ever since then, whenever Norma saw Sierra, she could only keep silent. All she dared was to snort in disdain.
In the last five years, they had only met each other about four or five times.
“Did you come today just to visit, or have you thought more about what I asked you to do?” Solomon’s expression settled back into its usual gentle calm, his voice unhurried.
Sierra met his eyes. “I came to see you, and to talk with you honestly.”
Solomon paused for a moment before curiosity showed in his eyes. “About what?”
“I’m not you, not John, and definitely not one of your friends from that circle.” Sierra made it clear she wouldn’t repeat herself.” I don’t understand any doublespeak, and I don’t like talking in circles.”
Solomon’s lips moved.
Before he could speak, Sierra went on.
“I know you have an agenda, and it’s not because you care that much about John. I’m one hundred percent sure of that.”
“Am I really that untrustworthy in your eyes?” Solomon asked slowly.
“Yes,” Sierra said, crisp and direct.
For a moment, Solomon had nothing. No counterargument.
He could handle every kind of scheme and move in business, but facing someone this blunt felt strangely exposing; as if everything he meant to keep buried had been dragged into the light.
“I don’t believe you’re doing this for John’s sake.” Sierra kept her voice calm, but her resolve was unmistakable. “Since you chose to pull me into this, that means I’m one of your moves against him.”
“I really saved you just because…” Solomon tried to smooth it over.
“I’m only saying this once.” Sierra’s face stayed stern, not a hint of humor in it. “If this conversation doesn’t meet my expectations, I’ll wipe that night from my mind and act like it never happened.”
Solomon opened his mouth. Under her gaze, the tidy script he had prepared fell apart.

He saw how determined she was to hear the truth and how firmly she judged things for herself. He knew that if he couldn’t give her a reason she could accept, she really would treat it all as if it had never happened.
If that happened, his plans for her would collapse.
What a difficult piece to move on the board…
“You don’t have to answer right now.” Sierra gave him room to think about it. “Wait until you’ve decided.”
Solomon met her firm gaze. For once, his usual instincts shifted, affected by that stare. He suddenly felt like he wanted to follow her lead and lay everything on the table.
