Chapter 384
“It’s fine,” Sierra said to John without even raising her head. “You just focus on your own work.”
John didn’t push it. The two of them didn’t speak again until she and Tommy were getting into the car for the hospital. Only then did John say to call him if anything comes up.
On the way over, Tommy leaned against her side. “Mom.”
“Yes?” Sierra gave him a look.
Tommy raised his head and looked up at her. “I have a tiny request.”
Sierra’s tone softened. “Go ahead.”
“Starting tonight, can I sleep next to Dad?”
Tommy knew his dad could be awful, but he would be gone before long. He wanted to leave John whatever warmth he could.
“Of course you can.” Sierra rubbed his hair. “That’s your choice. You can decide that for yourself.”
But the little warmth he wanted to give…
Some people did not want it at all.
When he ran to John’s bed in his cute pajamas, John kicked him out without a second thought.
Tommy complained, but John just patted his head and said, “Only my wife gets to sleep in my bed. Everyone else, get out.”
The warmth Tommy wanted to leave for him vanished just like that.
John knew perfectly well that his son was acting out of character because the boy and Sierra had already agreed to leave together. He thought about trying to make it up to Tommy, but what Tommy wanted was never some half–hearted
compensation.
Not to mention, John was never actually going to let them leave anyway.
He would let them go have some fun for a day or two. They were still coming home in the end.
Sierra went to the hospital every day to stay with Anna over the next few days through her rehab sessions. John stayed at the office working late.
Without either of them noticing, their lives slipped back into the way they had been before.
No shouting.
No arguments.
No clashes.
Until the moment Sierra submitted a resignation notice to him.
He called her right away. “You’re quitting?”
Sierra was still accompanying Anna for her rehab. When she saw the doctor guiding Anna through a set of movements, she stepped into a quieter corner and answered, “Yes. I’ll pay whatever penalty there is. I still want to focus on taking care of my mom.”
“Don’t you want to see through the first game you have ever worked on?” John’s voice was low.
“I do,” Sierra answered honestly, “but life is full of regrets.”

In her original plan, she would have divorced John cleanly, then settled in at Origin Games and worked hard. However, everything that happened after made it impossible to follow that plan. All she could do now was to walk away.
John knew she was talking about him. “Like we said before, once the month is up, then we can…”
For once, Sierra cut him off and let herself be rude. “What I sent you was a resignation letter, not a request. When the time’s up,
I’m leaving.”
She had already talked to the manager and to Morgan, but both of them had told her to speak directly to John. So, she could only speak to him.
“Come in tomorrow and finish your resignation paperwork,” John said, all business now. “You still haven’t handed off your
work.”
“Alright,” Sierra replied.
The call ended.
Sierra let out a quiet sigh of relief.
She was just about to head back into the room to sit with Anna.
Turning around, she saw Lucas walking toward her down the hallway. A flicker of wariness rose in her chest.
