When Tommy saw it was John, his eyes lit up for a second, but he hid it at once and put on a little act. “Did you get permission to be here?”

“I brought her birthday present and got invited in,” John said as he sat on a chair.

John looked at him, amused. “What about you?”

They stayed like that for the next half hour or so. When Anna passed by and saw him, she paused for a moment but didn’t s in. If he was upstairs, it was almost certainly because Sierra had already agreed to let him in.

As a mother, all she could do was give her daughter enough support to make whatever choices she wanted. How Sierra chos live her life was not something Anna would interfere with.
