Chapter 471
John was about to ask about something when Sierra cut him off first.
“It was me.”
His brows furrowed at once, and he rejected it immediately.
The girl who had saved him that day had been left with a scar on her thigh. Sierra’s skin was smooth, without a mark on her.
“I know what you’re thinking. I had the scar removed in the hospital when I was in university,” Sierra said calmly. “If you don’t believe me, you can ask the doctor who did the treatment at the time.”
John dismissed it without hesitation. “This isn’t funny.”
But Sierra went on.
“Pamela couldn’t tell you what I was wearing that day, could she? Because when I told Holly about it, I left out those details. They didn’t matter. But I remember. I was wearing a pink princess dress, and my hair was styled like a princess’s too. I got that scar on my leg while I was dragging you to shore.”
Sierra told him everything that had happened that day.
She knew he had to remember. He had always cared so much about that childhood promise. There was no way he had forgotten any of it.
“Aren’t you someone who keeps his promises?” Sierra forced down the weight in her chest and kept her voice calm. “Then I want you to divorce me. Starting today, don’t interfere in anything I do. Don’t spy on me, openly or in secret. Of course, don’t show up in front of me unless it’s about the divorce.”
John lowered his eyes, as though something inside him had collapsed in that instant.
Sierra held back the emotions in her chest.
“That’s the best way you can take care of me.”
By the time Kenneth and Robin caught up, the two of them were still standing there. The atmosphere around them was grim and heavy.
When Kenneth saw Sierra walking toward them with a calm and emotionless expression, his heart skipped a beat. “Don’t tell me she already told John…”
“Going by Mr. Henderson’s face, she probably did,” Robin said, looking at John, who still hadn’t moved.
From John’s side, there was nothing wrong with honoring a promise.
From Sierra’s side, there was nothing wrong with wanting a divorce after everything John had done to hurt her.
Kenneth stopped Sierra as she came over. “What did you say to him?”
“Everything you couldn’t bring yourself to tell him,” Sierra said.
Kenneth hesitated. “What else?”
Sierra didn’t hide it. “I told him to keep his promise and divorce me.”
“You know better than anyone how much he cares about you. You’re using that promise to force him into something he doesn’t want, just like Pamela did!”
Kenneth was so worried John wouldn’t be able to take it that he let out his anger on Sierra instead.
“With how much he loves you, do you think that’s fair?”

Robin cut in at once. “Mr. Gomez, sir. You’ve crossed a line.”
Even if Sierra wanted to divorce John, she was still the person John cared about most.
