Chapter 479
John paused,
Seeing him reacting, Robin kept going. “After that, Ms. Bell’s friends will definitely say she made the right choice divorcing you. You got so ugly right after the divorce.”
“If you really have that much free time,” John said softly, “I’ll call your parents and have them set you up on blind dates.”
“I’m not free,” Robin answered at once. “No need for that.”
John said nothing else. He lowered his eyes to keep working.
When it was midnight again, Robin took out his phone and called Kenneth. “Mr. Gomez, are you busy?”
“Talk,” Kenneth said.
“Mr. Henderson has been staying up late and working overtime this whole time. He only sleeps three or four hours a day.” Robin was genuinely worried. “Why don’t you come talk to him?”
The line went quiet for a moment. About ten seconds later, Kenneth spoke again. “Is he still eating all three meals on time?”
Robin answered honestly. “Yes.”
John ate on time and worked late to finish everything. He also went upstairs to the gym every afternoon and worked out for an hour. His routine was almost the same as when Sierra was still around.
The only difference was that he worked even more and talked less than before. He was like a robot running on a program.
“Then leave him alone,” Kenneth said, not reading too much into it. “It’s not like he hasn’t done this before.”
“He was younger then and could handle it.” Robin knew exactly what Kenneth meant. “Now he’s pushing thirty. I’m worried his body won’t hold up.”
“Even if he were in his fifties, his health and ability to handle pressure would still be better than yours.” Kenneth’s tone was unreadable. “If he wants to work late, let him. If you want to leave on time, just tell him. He won’t make things hard for you.”
Robin had a complicated feeling about this.
He barely had anything to do now other than watching John work late every day. All there was left to do was to arrange John’s meals. He actually wished John would give him something to do.
“You’re really not coming to check on him?” Robin asked.
“No. I still remember what happened last time.” Kenneth sounded a little sulky. “He wouldn’t listen to me even if I went anyway, right?”

Robin glanced toward the CEO’s office.
Fair enough.
Even so, Kenneth still called Lucy after hanging up.
John would never listen to him, but there was at least a slim chance he might listen to Lucy. No matter how angry he was, Kenneth still couldn’t watch John wreck his health like this.
Just like before, Lucy refused to get involved.
Kenneth could not figure out what she was thinking. “Aren’t you worried something might happen to him?
“Two months ago, Sierra was living like this too.” Lucy knew all about it and lounged lazily in her chair.” Other than work, she had to commute, visit her mother in the hospital, and take care of her son.”
Kenneth hesitated.
Lucy’s voice stayed light. “Why wasn’t anyone worried something might happen to her back then?”
Kenneth came up with an excuse on the spot. “As John’s best friend, it wouldn’t have been appropriate for me to worry about her.”
