“You’re wrong.” Sierra pushed back at once. “I don’t care about you. Whether you live or die has nothing to do with me.”
“Then why are you here?” John did not believe her at all. “Don’t tell me it’s because Solomon asked you to. If you really didn’t want to come here, you wouldn’t have taken a single step even if Solomon held a knife to your throat.

John knew Sierra well after five years together. Unless she was willing to, neither threats nor temptation would make her move.
“That might have been true in the past, but after everything I’ve been through, I’m not that stubborn anymore,” Sierra said. “Solomon is the eldest son of the Henderson family. He has plenty of connections and resources. Crossing him won’t do me any good right now.”
John kept his dark eyes on her.
Sierra went on, “I only came to see you once. It cost me nothing.”
“You’re not the kind of person who compromises for resources,” John said with complete certainty.
“Then you were wrong about me.” Sierra had changed a lot after the divorce, and she had been through even more since then. “Just a few days ago, I was smiling and raising my glass to the people who looked down on me.”
John did not believe a word of it.
Her personality was just like her name, and her pride was as strong as the mountain.
Førget smiling and making toasts, she would either ignore them or make sure they paid for it when someone looked down on her.
“If you don’t believe me, ask the people at that dinner.”
Sierra wanted to shatter the image he still had of her. They could finally stop getting mixed up, and he wouldn’t have to keep worrying and holding back until he was worn out.
What he liked was the part of her that had seemed untouched by the world. The purity and directness.
But that version of her was gone.
“I still have things to do, so I’m leaving.” Sierra checked the time. She was planning to go back and work on the proposal. “I’ll come see you again this evening.”
After saying that, she did not stay for another moment. She picked up her purse and phone before leaving. When she saw Kenneth and Robin outside, she said, “John’s doing fine so far. He hasn’t had any nausea, and he’s doing well.”
“Understood. Thank you for your help.” Robin gave a slight nod.
“Marcus, let’s go.” Sierra said before leaving with Marcus.
After Kenneth and Robin watched them leave, they went into the room together.
The room felt heavy. The two of them exchanged a glance, and Kenneth stepped forward first, half–joking.” What’s with that look? You’re not happy to see Sierra?”
“I want her schedule and everything she has been through this past month,” John said. Sierra’s words were still

ringing inside his head. “Especially dinner parties.‘
Robin pressed his lips and hesitated before speaking. “I’ll look into it right away.”
John’s eyes landed on him. They looked calm, but there was something almost suffocating in them.
Robin’s heart started pounding.
That look…
What did it mean?
“Haven’t you been keeping track of her this whole time?” John asked, each word slow and clear.
“I was, but after you warned me not to look into anything about Sierra, I stopped tracking her.” Robin lied with a straight face. “What I mentioned earlier when I was talking with Kenneth was all just hearsay.”
John stared at him.
He did not believe a word.
“I can vouch for that.” Kenneth jumped in and somehow made it worse. “That really was just hearsay. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been talking about it.”
“You know I don’t like being lied to.” John gave Robin one last chance, then shifted his gaze to Kenneth. “If I don’t have everything that happened to Sierra during this time in the next ten seconds, you can go work for him.”
