"He gives me money every month. I need to act like the sweet, innocent type he likes and do whatever he says."
Tammy didn't put it too plainly to Sierra, but they were both adults. Something didn't need to be spelled out loud between adults.
Sierra thought for a moment. "How much does he give you?"
Tammy did not hide it. "Twenty thousand."
Sierra said flatly, "That little?"
Tammy froze. Some of the shame she had been carrying suddenly eased.
"He may not be the CEO of Henderson Group, but he still has shares and several companies under his name." Sierra knew a little about that. "Only giving you twenty thousand a month is way too low."
"He buys me gifts too when he's in a good mood sometimes." Tammy said.
Sierra's gaze fell on Tammy, studying her. For some reason, Tammy found Sierra's look a little adorable despite Sierra scrutinizing her.
"That's not the point." Sierra felt that Solomon had worn Tammy down until she started seeing things the wrong way. "With your looks and your talent, making twenty thousand dollars a month as an actress should not be hard."
Tammy nodded.
The shows he had shelved were all solid productions and from good intellectual properties. Even if her parts had only been supporting roles, like the third or fourth female lead, or a villainess, they were still good roles. According to her agency's plan, she would have at least made it into a C-lister once those dramas aired.
Sierra helped her sort through it. "He shelved every show you filmed?"
"Yes."
Thinking back to what had happened that day, Sierra made a bold guess. "He didn't let you go and take other roles either, did he? He just wanted you to stay his sweet, innocent girl?"
Tammy's eyes widened a little, as if she hadn't expected Sierra to be able to guess that too.
"To put it nicely, he's a scumbag with serious controlling issues. He has no intention of taking any responsibility." Sierra saw straight through it and refused to fall into Solomon's trap. "He's cheap, manipulative, selfish, and overbearing."
Tammy looked back on her past. "When I don't make him angry, he treats me alright… I guess."
Something complicated flickered through Sierra's eyes.
Tammy shook her head.
If Solomon hadn't threatened her with her younger sister again and again, how could she have stayed by his side?
He had always been a devil.
"If there's anything you need help with, tell me." Sierra didn't want to see her like this, and she detested men like Solomon even more for the way they crushed others. "I have some influence now."
Tammy seemed to understand all at once. "I get it now."
Seeing that Tammy wasn't just saying it to comfort her, Sierra relaxed a little too.
After a while, Sierra thought about what had happened in Harbor City. She hesitated repeatedly before finally saying, "Tammy."
"Yes?" Tammy had already come out of the suffocating emotions.
"Do you..." Sierra stopped. A second later, she finally asked, "Do you know a Maxwell King? From the King family of Harbor City?"
