Chapter 592

Sierra paused when she heard Nathan asking if he could hug her. She refused without hesitation. “No.”
“Alright.” Nathan nodded. He was not embarrassed at all. He immediately lowered his hands and changed the subject. “Do you want me to send the people downstairs away for you?”
Sierra had only slightly opened her mouth and had yet to say anything when Nathan answered for her already.
“I’ll ask them to leave right now.”
Then, he walked downstairs decisively.
Sierra was speechless. She felt like she could not quite keep up with any of this. It was not as though she had been away from home for a month.
When she could not come back, she would make a video call with Tommy every night. Even when she came back, everything seemed perfectly normal.
But when she came back this time, Tommy had turned into a hacker, and Nathan had become someone easy to get along with.
Everything had changed so much.
She pushed down her emotions and walked downstairs, quietly sorting her thoughts.
Downstairs, Nathan seemed like a completely different person from the one upstairs. His whole presence changed in an instant. He did not bother being polite to Charlie at all.
“If you have no other business here, please leave. The four of us still have family matters to discuss.”
Charlie blinked.
Maxwell blinked, too.
Both of them looked at Nathan in confusion. Even Maxwell’s usually cold expression cracked a little.
“A family of four?” Charlie repeated.
Nathan’s eyes narrowed as he exuded pressure. “Do you have a problem with that?”
Charlie asked, “Has Sierra called you Dad yet?”
Nathan said nothing.
Charlie pressed on. “Has Anna forgiven you yet?”
Nathan continued to be silent.
Sometimes, certain things became awkward to do when neither your wife nor your daughter gave you any backing.
“By your logic,” Charlie went on, “Sierra and the others are a family of five with me, too. After all, I am her uncle. We are a real family.”
The air around Nathan turned cold.
Maxwell knew Nathan well, so he nudged Charlie with his elbow and faked a cough.
“What are you coughing for?” Charlie snapped.
He had lived under Nathan’s shadow for almost half his life. Back when they were young, Anna and Nathan had stolen all the spotlight from him. 1
“I’m not wrong After everything he did back then, how can Anna forgive him
Charlie had finally found a chance to get on top of Nathen, and he had no intention of letting it pass hien
“Forget being a family of four If Anna really did forgive him, I’ll eat my htt
“Please don’t take it too seriously,” Maxwell said to Nathan “My father has a slick temper med tends to språk séta

Charlie was about to argue with him on the spot, but Maxwell shot him a look. Charle foretky posted the words that had reached his mouth down
It was not that he was afraid of his son. He just did not want to argue in front of outsiders.
“I’m not,” Nathan said.
Maxwell gave a slight nod
The next second, Nathan pulled out his phone and made a call “Send four men in Drag Charlie out. We don’t welcome rats bere
“Nathan! Don’t you dare!” Charlie had never suffered such humiliation.
“Mr. Lynch.” Maxwell’s eyes turned a little cold.
“This is between your father and me. I advise you not to interfere.” Nathan’s said, his height alone made him imposing, “If you do interfere, then this becomes a conflict between the King and the Lynch family.” *
Maxwell still wanted to say something, but Nathan’s bodyguards bad already walked in.
Looking at the four bulky and intimidating men, Charlie quickly chose dignity over stubbornness. “There’s no need for any of this. I can leave on my own.”
He stormed off, glaring at Nathan as if he were looking at an enemy,

Nathan did not care in the least about how Charlie was looking at him.

It was not as if he had never seen that kind of look when he was younger, and Charlie had always been the one at the receiving end.
“Isn’t that a little overboard?” Maxwell asked calmly,, but there was a hint of coldness in it. “Regardless of everything, my father is still the head of the King family.”
“If he wasn’t the head of the King family, I wouldn’t have let him walk out on his own just now,” Nathan retorted.
Maxwell looked at him with his dark eyes, and the two men simply stared at each other.
Only when Sierra appeared did the standoff finally break. She walked up to Maxwell and said plainly, “I want to talk to you.”
Maxwell looked away. “Sure.”
The two of them walked out of the villa. Nathan looked at him with a complicated gaze.
Seeing how Sierra seemed to have something heavy in her mind, Maxwell did not take his feelings toward Nathan out on her. Instead, he asked nonchalantly, “What do you want to talk about?”
“Were you involved in my mother’s accident back then?” Sierra asked.
She didn’t waste any time. The moment he was at his most relaxed, she lashed out and asked the most sensitive question.
She had been thinking about this on the way back about whether to lay everything out with Maxwell. After turning it over repeatedly and how they had gotten along during this time, she decided to ask him directly.
If Maxwell was really involved in this, then she would have to re-evaluate the enemies she was dealing with.
If he had been part of it and could still keep this calm, gentlemanly face afterward, then no matter what happened in the future, she would have to stay completely on guard around him. She would not be able to trust a single word he said.
She already had too many things to deal with, and she did not want to waste time on this.
Maxwell paused, clearly not expecting that question.
Sierra did not rush him as she simply waited for his answer.
“What did Joey tell you?” Maxwell quickly returned to normal, his calm expression showing little.
Sierra did not answer. Joey could be irritating, but he hadn’t done anything too outrageous so far.
If John was here, he would have regretted the fact that he hadn’t told Sierra about what Joey did to Tommy.
“I’m sorry about what happened to your mother.” It was the first time Maxwell had answered that question head-on, but his answer was still far from clear. “Just assume I did it and treat me like an enemy in front of everyone.”
Sierra narrowed her eyes.
What did he mean by just assuming he did it?
Maxwell looked at his younger cousin standing in front of him and reminded her, “You shouldn’t bring up a question like this in front of Loren and my father.”
“I know.” Sierra nodded.
The reason she had chosen to ask Maxwell about this was because she believed there was a sixty percent chance he was one of the good ones. He might be cold and distant, but through all their interactions, he had always been respectful.

A bad person couldn’t notice that many details and handle all of them so well
After a quiet hum, Maxwell turned around and left.
Sierra did not ask anything else as she watched him get into his car.
In the next second, Marcus appeared at her side like he had teleported there.
Sierra froze
Marcus stared at the car as it drove farther away, then said with his usual serious face, “From the looks of it, your oldest cousin isn’t the problem ”
“He isn’t.” Sierra had confirmed her suspicion from those few lines of conversation. “But I think you are.”
Marcus gave her a blank look of confusion.
“Eavesdropping on your boss’s conversation with someone else is wrong,” Sierra said.
Marcus calmly repeated his job description. “As your assistant, bodyguard, and driver, I have to stay by your side twenty-four hours a day. Unless there are special circumstances, I’m not allowed to leave my post without your permission.”
“For a bodyguard and driver, you talk a little too much.” Sierra bickered with him the way she always did. “As an assistant, you interfere too much in your employer’s business.”
“It’s my duty to solve problems for my boss,” Marcus said.
Sierra stopped teasing and put on her game face. “Do you really think Maxwell wasn’t involved?”
“He wasn’t.” Marcus had always been accurate when it came to judging people. “Based on what he said just now and the look on his face, your mother’s accident was not his doing. He was probably dragged into it for some other reason.”
