Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 615

"We still don't know," Tony said to Sierra back in the car. "But from now on, don't take anything Daniel said too seriously."

"Agreed," Marcus said.

If even Marcus agreed, Sierra answered without hesitation. "Alright."

"You trust us that much?" Tony was a little surprised she had not even stopped to think about their assessment. "Aren't you worried we're simply making things up to stop you from getting rich?"

"You might," Sierra said. Now that he had been around for a while, she could joke with him too. "But Marcus wouldn't."

Marcus looked pleased and he sat up a little straighter. He absolutely would not let his boss down.

"Not necessarily." Tony drove with easy confidence in his tone. "Haven't you noticed that in a lot of movies, the real mastermind is always the one who seems harmless at first? The one nobody suspects?"

"That's in movies," Sierra said.

"Real life can be more dramatic than movies," Tony said.

"Then you must be the villain," Sierra continued.

Tony blinked.

"She's right," Marcus said.

"Fair enough." Tony actually accepted it and started analyzing himself with a straight face. "I'm handsome with a smooth tongue, with incredible talents in driving and psychology. That's obviously top-tier villain material."

Sierra said nothing and neither did Marcus.

Then, Tony went on, "Don't worry. Even if I were the villain, I'll still be the kind who loyally keeps working as your bodyguard and driver."

"Watch the road," Sierra reminded him when she saw him talking while taking over another car. "I don't want to die yet."

"You can question my character, but you can't question my driving," Tony feigned being heartbroken.

Sierra looked at him. "Were you possessed by Marcus?"

Marcus looked baffled as his eyes shifted back and forth between the two. What did this have to do with him?

Sierra looked confused as Tony snapped back, "What about when you do it?"

"I'm a personal assistant, which means I'm allowed to get involved," Marcus said.

"I'm a secretary!" Tony said.

"She never hired you for the position and you never finished with the hiring process," Marcus said matter-of-factly.

"Miss, give me a secretary position! I don't need a salary! You can use me for free!" Tony said.

"The phrase 'use me for free' is vague," Marcus said seriously. "If someone with bad intentions heard that, they would think she has a messy private life."

Sierra fell silent as she tuned the two of them out.

They could have so many fights a day that she was used to it by now, but it still affected her mood a little when they started with something serious and somehow ended up like this again.

Sometimes it really felt like she was raising two three-year-olds.
