More than twenty years had been lost between Nathan and Anna. No matter how deep the feelings had once been, time had worn them down.
Nathan could tell Anna no longer cared about him the way she once had back then. She truly saw him as someone who no longer mattered to her.
"Back to the main topic at hand," John said as he gave him an exit and changed the subject himself. "How does your uncle plan to go after Sierra and Tommy?"
Cedric remained quiet. So, they still remembered there was another person standing there. Every bit of frustration he had suffered in this life was tied to Nathan.
"You can take your time and ask him about that." Nathan gave Cedric a glance, then raised a hand and patted John inside the costume. "I was only passing along the message."
John turned to look at Cedric while still wearing the costume.
Cedric spoke as if nothing was wrong. "Mr. Henderson came dressed like this to celebrate your son's birthday?"
"What? Was he supposed to celebrate it with you?" Kenneth cut in.
The veins at Cedric's temples throbbed. If the man in front of him had been anyone but John, he never would have let these two of them walk away unharmed.
"I don't know whether what Mr. Nathan said just now was true." John's voice was colder than before. "But let me remind you of one thing. It's not worth risking your whole fortune for that little bit of money."
"Of course it wasn't true." Cedric kept up his act. "I have no problem with Sierra. Why would I go after her?"
He was not a fool. Going head-to-head with John would not have benefited him. While this was Harbor City, if John really wanted to make a move against him, it was not something difficult at all.
He would not reveal his aim before he was fully prepared.
"Good." John's voice was nonchalant. "I'm not as kind as Mr. Nathan is. If I make a move, my target won't just lose everything. I'll make sure he won't even get a chance to start over. You're a smart man, Mr. Cedric. You should understand that better than I do."
"But..." Kenneth wanted to say something more.
"He isn't the only one who knows how to trip others up." John cut him off and spoke in his usual unhurried way. "So do I."
After saying that, he left Kenneth and Robin behind and walked off. Right then, all he wanted was to see Sierra.
She had said she did not want him showing up in her line of sight, but if he went in the costume, then the one standing in front of her would only be a person in the costume, not him.
When he got there, Sierra was talking with Holly and the others. A shadow suddenly fell over them. Sierra turned around on instinct, then looked up and met the mascot's eyes.
"You are..." Sierra did not recognize John at first. Kenneth and Robin were not with him, after all. There was no way to tell who was inside just from the costume.
"Sierra, get behind me!" Nicholas pulled her back and looked at John more warily. "Who knows whether he'll pull a knife out of his pocket any second."
