Daniel looked away after mentioning the paternity test, avoiding Nathan's gaze.
The test was necessary. Whether Nathan wanted it or not, this was a step they had to take. If they had to pin the blame on someone or something, then they could only pin the blame on the fact that Sierra had not grown up in the Lynch family.
"Why isn't John back yet?" Daniel glanced outside and said unhurriedly, "Ask Sierra if it's because he couldn't find any suitable clothes."
Nathan said nothing.
The others took advantage of John's absence and started asking questions.
"Daniel, is there any special reason John is here?"
"What exactly is his relationship with Sierra?"
"Aren't they divorced?"
These people were all self-serving in essence. They were reluctant to give up once they saw a prize like John.
Nathan and Anna paving a path for Sierra was one thing, but a marriage alliance with John was another. Between the two, they preferred the future they could actually see and touch.
"Young people these days don't treat divorce that seriously," Daniel said. He did not say it outright, but his words were clearly guiding them to a certain conclusion. "Look at how those two get along. Do they look divorced?"
Everyone exchanged glances.
They did not.
They looked more like a young couple in the middle of a fight.
"If they wanted to play around, let them," Daniel said in a relaxed tone. "Once they've had enough fun, they'll remarry."
Nathan looked at Daniel. After all these years, Daniel's habit of putting interests first had not changed at all. If Sierra had never had any relationship with John, would Daniel have done everything he could to stop what Nathan wanted to do just like back then?
"Why are you looking at me?" Daniel ignored his gaze completely. "Did you ask Sierra about it? What did she say?"
[Sierra doesn't like dinners where all people do is exchange flattery.] John did it on purpose as he typed slowly, his words clearly provoking Nathan. [You care about her so much, but you didn't notice this?]
Nathan fell silent as his grip tightened around his phone.
What Sierra did not know was that while she was still thinking about how to reply, the two men had already exchanged plenty of messages.
"Nathan is asking when we're going back." She threw the question at John as her eyes swept over the wine stains on his clothes. "Your clothes..."
"Do you want the Lynch Group shares?" John asked.
Sierra paused for a moment.
It was not about whether she wanted them. With her current ability, handling the King family was already exhausting enough. If the Lynch family shares fell into her hands too...
"The fact that you didn't reject them immediately means you want them. You're just hesitating because of other reasons." John had already made the decision for her. He naturally took her hand and stood up. "Let's go. We're going back."
