Chapter 302
Asher POV
The moment we stepped foot inside the dungeon, I shivered. Not because it was cold, but because I could smell; the metallic scent of old blood in the air, the mildew, and the dirt. There was very little light, and fresh air came through tiny rectangular windows near the ceiling, covered in bars.
To be fair, it was a dungeon, not some luxury hotel.
Candice looked wrecked, as did the other two girls. All of them were in separate cells, close to one another without being able to touch. Time had not been kind to them. Their clothes were torn, their bodies covered in dirt, and their eyes were dull without a hint of sparkle in them.
They looked exactly like the prisoners they were.
Candice flung herself at the bars and then stepped back once they burned her skin, a look of utmost desperation on her face.
“Aaron,” she whimpered, trying to put an imploring hand through the bars, “please, I made a mistake. You have to forgive me,” she gasped, “I can’t stand another minute in this hellhole.”
“I didn’t put you in here, Candice,” Aaron’s voice was cold, “you did. You hurt my mate.”
“That insignificant runt,” she shot me a look filled with contempt, “she’ll never be worthy of you, Aaron. I’m the one who’s always known your preferences, your likes, your dislikes. Everything I’ve done, has been with your best interests in mind,” she shot out.
I rolled my eyes.
“Cut the crap, Candice. Aaron has no interest in you. We’re marked; we’ve claimed one another. All your bullshit claims and posturing will get you nowhere.”
My voice was frosty.
“Fuck you,” Candice snarled. “You think I’m afraid of you? We both know you don’t have the guts to do anything to me.”
“Is that so?” I said softly.
Aaron put a protective hand on my shoulder. The other two girls bowed their heads and remained silent, perhaps wise enough to recognize the danger they were in.
“The Alpha and Luna have already given Asher permission to deal with you as she sees fit,” Aaron’s voice was dark.
Candice eyed me, but her expression remained arrogant. She truly thought she was untouchable.
