Chapter 109
Damon pov
I called the council the moment I finished forwarding the recording to Callum, reaching Helena directly rather than routing through the usual formal channels, understanding the urgency of getting this evidence into their hands as quickly as possible.
“I have something you need to hear immediately,” I said, once she’d answered. “Evelyn was approached by Genevieve Ashworth today, unprompted. She recorded the entire conversation. Genevieve directly admits her accusations against me are fabricated.”
There was a brief pause on the other end, followed by Helena’s careful, measured response. “Send it to me immediately. I’ll convene the relevant council members to review it as soon as possible.”
I forwarded the recording, along with a brief written account of everything Evelyn had told me about the confrontation, and ended the call with cautious relief settling into my chest for the first time since this entire manufactured crisis began.
I’d barely set my phone down when it rang again, an unfamiliar number flashing across the screen. I answered warily, some instinct already suspecting who might be calling.
“You interfering little-” Genevieve’s voice came through immediately, sharp and furious, cutting off whatever greeting I might have offered. “Do you understand what you’ve just done?”
“I understand you approached my mate while she was shopping with our daughter and threatened her,” I said, keeping my voice level despite the anger building beneath my calm exterior. “And that you apparently admitted, on record, that your entire complaint against me is fabricated.”
“She tricked me,” Genevieve snapped, fury evident in every word. “Recording me without my knowledge, manipulating the conversation to get exactly what she wanted-”
“You approached her,” I said flatly. “Unprompted, in public, and made threats. Whatever she recorded, she recorded because you chose to confront her in the first place.”
“You have no idea what you’ve done,” she continued, voice rising further, something genuinely unhinged entering her tone now. “Fifteen years, Damon. Fifteen years I gave to your father, and you’re going to let this destroy everything I have left because your little wife decided to play detective?”
“I’m not letting anything destroy anything,” I said, frustration finally breaking through my careful composure. “You’re the one who fabricated accusations, who showed up uninvited at a hospital and triggered a health crisis, who then confronted my mate in public and threatened her. Every consequence you’re facing right now is a direct result of your own choices.”
“You’ll be sorry,” she said, her voice dropping into something colder, more deliberate despite the underlying hysteria. “For interfering between Robert and me. For letting your wife destroy fifteen years of my life without a second thought. I’ll make sure you understand exactly what it feels like to lose everything that actually matters to you.”

Something cold settled into my chest at the vague, unsettling threat, understanding I needed to take this seriously regardless of how unhinged she currently sounded. “Is that a threat, Genevieve?”
“Take it however you want,” she said, something bitter and desperate in her voice now. “You’ve already decided I’m the villain in this situation. Might as well actually earn the reputation.”
“I’m ending this call,” I said firmly, “and I’m reporting everything you’ve just said directly to the council, along with the recording Evelyn already provided. If you contact either of us again, or approach my family in any capacity, I will treat it as exactly the kind of genuine threat you’re apparently determined to become.”
I ended the call before she could respond further, my hands slightly unsteady with adrenaline and lingering anger, and immediately dialed Callum.
“She just called me,” I said, once he answered. “Screaming, threatening vague retaliation for ‘interfering’ between her and my father. I think this confirms exactly the pattern we suspected-genuine instability, possibly dangerous, not just calculated manipulation.”
“I’ll add that to what we’re presenting to the council,” Callum said, his voice tight with concern. “This should end the investigation into you entirely, and honestly, might shift things toward looking at whether she poses an active threat that needs addressing.”
“I want increased security around Evelyn and Willow,” I said immediately, protective urgency overriding everything else. “And around my father too, given everything.”
“Already arranging it,” Callum confirmed. “Sarah’s heading back to Evelyn’s location now, and I’ll have someone posted at your father’s room as well.”
