Chapter 23
The Farro brothers stopped crying. Although Marco was covering my eyes, I could imagine their furious and frustrated expressions.
“That’s impossible. He’s your uncle, Gina! The two of you can’t possibly be together!”
“He’s right, Gina. Don’t let him trick you!”
They then began to angrily slander Marco in front of me.
Marco simply pulled me into his embrace and prepared to take me away. However, I wasn’t going to allow anyone to insult my future husband as they pleased. I poked my head out from Marco’s chest and smiled at the Farro brothers.
“You don’t need to worry about what goes on between my husband and me. In fact, you should worry more about what’s been happening to your company.”
Marco led me away after I said my piece. I didn’t expect him to bring me directly to the city hall after we left the venue.
Before I could react to what was happening, he had already retrieved a ring box from his pocket.
“I’ve had this ring ready for a long time, Gina. I carry it with me every day, just waiting for the day that you’ll accept me. I wanted to put it on your finger as soon as possible when that day finally came.
“I’ve taken what you said earlier to heart. Are you willing to spend the rest of our lives together, Gina?” Marco asked as he sank to one knee and presented the ring to me.
I stared at him for a long time. The droplets of sweat that were running down his face were on the verge of dripping to the floor when I nodded and said, “I do.”
Marco’s hands were trembling when he slipped the ring onto my finger. He said, “I never imagined that my dream would
ever come true, Gina.”
He was still shaking when we filled in the marriage application forms.
“Did you know? When I realized that I was having unsavory thoughts about you, I told myself that no matter what happened in the future, I would always remain by your side. I wanted to see you happy, even if I had to stay unmarried.
“I never could have imagined that we would find our happiness together.”
From the moment we stepped out of the city hall, Marco pulled me into a tight embrace as tears streamed down his face.
It was my first time seeing him cry. I patiently held him and coaxed him for a long time, but in the end, I began shedding tears on my own.
It turned out that people cried when they were happy too.
After we chose the date for our wedding ceremony, Marco published an announcement for it in the newspaper. He also bought out the massive screen in Tortella Square, broadcasting the happy news for an entire month.
