He leaned back in his chair, legs crossed, a cold smirk curling at his lips, his eyes brimming with contempt and scorn.

It had been almost a week since Easton left for Menolia, and for some reason, whenever Sophia had a free moment, she kept thinking about him and about what he’d said.to her at the airport.

Her emotions were a tangled mess, and it felt like two versions of herself were constantly battling it out in her mind.

One voice in her head nagged, “Seriously, are you still holding onto hope for him? Don’t fall for what that jerk says. Remember how he used to promise you the world, swearing he’d marry you?

“And what happened? He moved on in no time and found his dream girl.

“If you didn’t remind him of Stella, do you really think he would’ve married you? Don’t fall for the same trap twice.”

But another voice argued, “Easton’s explained it to you so many times: he and Stella aren’t what you think, and that kid isn’t his. He even saved your life and secretly helped out Crestview.

“If he didn’t really care about you, why would he spend so much time and effort on you?”

Sophia stared at the car keys on her desk.

Outside, Jenston’s night was alive with glittering lights, the city’s energy pouring in through the windows and tugging at her heart. All those complicated feelings she couldn’t quite name about Easton were starting to bubble up again.

She shut her laptop, slung her bag over her shoulder, and left the office.

She’d just pulled into the Grandview Estate parking lot when her phone suddenly rang: it was Edward.

“Uncle Edward? It’s so late, you haven’t gone to bed yet?” Sophia said.

“Sophia, get back to the Roth residence right now. Julian’s in trouble. Annie’s been calling him nonstop, but she can’t get through,” Edward said, his voice weighed down with worry.

Sophia’s heart dropped. She didn’t dare ask anything else. She just jumped back in her car and tore off toward the Roth residence as fast as she could.

When Sophia walked in, she saw Annie situg on the couch, Worfied sick, while Edward looked really upset.
