After work, Easton took Katherine to the psychology department at Remony Medical Center. David had only recently regained consciousness, and he was still recovering, both in body and mind.

When he saw someone unfamiliar, he immediately hid under the bed.

Easton crouched down beside him, speaking softly to comfort the boy, then picked him up and held him close.

Katherine looked at the kid’s face, which was uncanny how much he looked like Murray. Tears started rolling down her cheeks before she even realized it.

Gordon tried to comfort her. “Ms. Chandler, please don’t cry. The kid’s already shy around strangers, and if you get emotional, he’ll pick up on it and might end up being afraid to see you.”

Katherine nodded, quickly wiped away her tears, and forced a smile. “Hi, David. I’m Katherine. Can we be friends?”

David was too scared to look at her, clinging tightly to Easton.

Easton spoke gently, trying to reassure him. “David, don’t be scared. Katherine is a friend of your dad’s. She heard you weren’t feeling well and came with me to visit you and keep you company.”

David stole a cautious glance at Katherine, his eyes full of uncertainty. “Really?” he whispered.

Katherine nodded, giving him a gentle pat on the head. “David, you’re such a sweet kid. It’s really nice to meet you. Can we chat for a bit?”

David shot Katherine a quick look, then shifted his gaze back to Easton.

“David, Katherine really likes you. Do you want to chat with her?” Easton coaxed softly.

When David heard Easton say that the lady before him liked him, his face lit up and he quietly said, “Okay.”

Katherine was relieved when David agreed. She joined him on the couch and started playing with his toys.

Easton watched, marveling at how unpredictable people’s connections could be. Just a few days ago, they tried several nannies, but David was unwilling to be close to them and even burst into tears.

But today, with Katherine, David actually warmed up to her and started having fun together.

Easton left the room with Gordon.

Right then, his phone started ringing. He saw Derrick’s caller ID.

‘Why would Derrick be calling me at this hour? Did something happen to Sophia? Easton thought, a wave of worry hitting

him.

He answered in a hurry.

“Easton, I found something I bet you’ll want to know. I’m emailing it to you now. Check your inbox. Let’s call it even for you helping out Crestview Group,” Derrick said.

Right after Derrick hung up, Easton’s phone pinged with his email.

Puzzled, Easton opened it. The moment he saw what was inside, his pupils contracted sharply, his lips pressed tight, and

his fists clenched at his sides.

Gordon stood off to the side and could tell just how furious Easton was.

‘Seriously, what’s Derrick’s deal? He’s always getting under Mr. Foster’s skin, and even his assistant is a pain, always hanging around Emily, Gordon grumbled to himself.

Besides, ever since Sophia and Easton had their falling out, Emily hadn’t reached out to him in ages.

Easton stood outside the hospital room, gripping his phone tightly, saying nothing.

Katherine made sure not to disturb David’s rest, spending no more than 20 minutes with him before leaving the room with a heavy heart.

She asked, “Mr. Foster, thank you so much for letting me see David today. He’s such a sweet and gentle kid. If it’s alright, could I come by and spend time with him on my own sometime?”

Easton looked at her. “If you want, David can be with you from now on.”

Katherine was stunned and thrilled as she hadn’t expected Easton to say that at all.
