Replacement Bride Left With His Baby (Sophia and Easton) novel Chapter 52

**The Case of the Bleeding Shadows by Emma Blackwood**

**Chapter 52**

Sophia stepped back into the familiar confines of the office building, her heart racing with the urgency of the day’s events. The Crestview Group’s supplies had finally arrived, neatly stacked and waiting to be sorted. After exchanging a warm farewell with Katherine, she made her way out, accompanied by Emily, who matched her pace with a determined stride.

As they approached the gates of the orphanage, an alarming sight caught their attention. The assistant director burst forth, her face a mask of panic, cradling a small girl in her arms. The child’s fragile form seemed to tremble against the woman’s chest.

“Madam, what happened?” Sophia inquired, her voice tinged with urgency and concern, instinctively sensing the gravity of the situation.

“It’s Crystal—she fell hard,” the woman replied, her voice strained, each word laced with a palpable fear. “She’s crying and says she can’t see.”

Sophia exchanged a quick glance with Emily, the unspoken understanding passing between them. The sight of the woman’s distress ignited a sense of urgency within Sophia. “Emily, get the car. We need to take them to the hospital immediately,” she commanded, her heart pounding with the weight of the moment.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Emily sprinted toward the parking lot, her resolve unshakeable. The urgency of the situation propelled them forward, and they soon found themselves speeding toward Jenston General Hospital.

Upon arriving at the hospital entrance, Sophia gently lifted the child from the assistant director’s arms, her heart aching for the little girl’s suffering. As they hurried inside, Emily took charge, guiding the anxious assistant director through the registration process, her calm demeanor a soothing balm amidst the chaos.

“Is there anything I can assist you with, miss?” a voice interrupted, pulling Sophia from her thoughts. She turned to see a doctor clad in a crisp white coat, his expression serious yet compassionate.

“Doctor, this little girl had a fall,” Sophia explained, her voice trembling slightly with concern. “After she got up, she started feeling dizzy and nauseous. Now she’s saying she can’t see.”

The doctor nodded, his brow furrowing with concentration as he led them into an examination room. “Please wait outside,” he instructed gently, his tone firm yet kind. “I need to examine her properly.”

As the door clicked shut behind them, Sophia found herself pacing the hallway, each step echoing her growing anxiety. The minutes felt like hours, stretching her nerves thin. Soon, she spotted Emily and the assistant director rushing toward her, their faces painted with worry after receiving Sophia’s frantic call.

“Ms. Roth, how is she?” the assistant director asked, her voice hurried, a tremor of fear evident in her tone.

Emily stepped forward, placing a comforting hand on the assistant director’s shoulder. “We’ll find a way through this together. Crystal will be alright,” she reassured, her voice steady and filled with determination.

As the doctor continued to explain the necessity of the corneal transplant, Sophia’s mind drifted back to her own past, to Easton’s struggle against the suffocating darkness. She could feel the psychological pressure and torment that came with being trapped in a world devoid of light. A new idea began to take root in her mind, a flicker of hope amidst the despair.

Yet, even as those thoughts swirled, she knew that the most immediate priority was to address Crystal’s urgent medical needs. With resolve, she pulled out her phone and swiftly dialed May’s number, her heart racing as she waited for a response.

Fifteen minutes later, a text from May pinged through, providing the address of another hospital willing to take Crystal.

Sophia moved to stand beside the assistant director, her voice steady as she shared the news. “The new hospital is ready for Crystal. We’ll transfer her soon, and I’ll coordinate directly with their team about the care she needs.”

Tears of gratitude shimmered in Emily’s eyes. Having grown up in the orphanage herself, she understood that particular helpless feeling better than any outsider could. Together, they would navigate this storm, united in their resolve to protect the innocent lives that had been entrusted to their care.
