Replacement Bride Left With His Baby (Sophia and Easton) novel Chapter 55

**The Case of the Bleeding Shadows by Emma Blackwood**

**Chapter 55**

Sophia lingered over the stack of documents, her fingers tracing the edges as if they held the answers to questions she dared not voice. After what felt like an eternity, she finally relinquished them, her voice steady but resolute. “I’ll choose his gift personally,” she declared, her resolve hardening with each word. “You can deliver it when it’s ready.”

Emily nodded in understanding, a flicker of curiosity in her eyes, and exited the office, leaving Sophia alone with her swirling thoughts.

As she sat in the quiet of her workspace, Sophia found her mind drifting back to the donation documents. Ever since her return to Jenston, her life had taken on a complexity she hadn’t anticipated, primarily due to Easton re-entering the picture.

It was as if the universe conspired to intertwine their paths, forcing them to collide both in the professional realm and in the more personal corners of her life. Each unplanned encounter with him sent a shiver of unease racing through her. A quiet dread nestled in her chest, growing heavier with every moment she spent contemplating their interactions.

But today, it was the sheer magnitude of his donation that gnawed at her insides, a persistent itch she couldn’t scratch.

She resolutely decided to push those thoughts aside; there was no merit in speculating about his motives. The Angel Fund depended heavily on contributions from the public, and she had no legitimate grounds to dismiss his generous offer.

Yet, she felt compelled to express her gratitude in some tangible way. A gift seemed not just appropriate but necessary for a donation of that magnitude. After all, his financial support would enable countless patients to reclaim their sight—a profound gift in itself.

With a sense of purpose, Sophia navigated to the Ambiance Gallery’s website, her eyes scanning for any artwork that might resonate with her. Knowing Easton’s passion for art, she envisioned a painting that would encapsulate her appreciation.

After a few moments of scrolling, frustration began to bubble within her; nothing seemed to catch her fancy. In a moment of practicality, she decided to reach out to the gallery for recommendations.

The staff was quick to respond, informing her of an upcoming exhibition at the Jenston Convention Center, where a fresh collection of pieces would be unveiled. Intrigued, Sophia didn’t hesitate to secure a ticket for the event.

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a warm glow across her office, Emily burst through the door, a ticket in hand.

“The gallery delivered your ticket, Ms. Roth,” Emily announced, her voice bright with enthusiasm.

After exchanging pleasantries, he guided her through the bustling convention center.

“Ms. Roth, the front area showcases our newest artists from the past two years,” Yves introduced her to the exhibits, his enthusiasm palpable. “The middle section features our international acquisitions, while the back wall displays older works by established artists that were previously listed online but haven’t found buyers yet. You might want to take a look back there; sometimes the best pieces are waiting to be discovered.”

As Sophia wandered through the gallery, captivated by the vibrant colors and emotional depth of the paintings, she absorbed Yves’s commentary, her mind momentarily distracted from the two men observing her from a distance in the seating area.

Ryan took a thoughtful sip of his coffee, his eyes narrowing as he observed the scene before him. “Fancy running into someone so lovely all the way out here,” he mused, glancing at Easton. “You won’t mind if I go say hello, will you?”

Easton shot him an indifferent look, his patience wearing thin. “Do as you please,” he replied, his tone laced with impatience.

Ryan flashed a charming smile as he made his way over to Sophia. “Ms. Roth, what a delightful surprise to see you here,” he said, his voice smooth and inviting.

Startled from her contemplation of a particularly striking painting, Sophia turned to find Ryan standing next to her, his presence unexpected yet not unwelcome. “Mr. Howard,” she replied, her surprise softening into a smile. “I didn’t take you for an art enthusiast.”
