Matthew gently patted Yvette's back as she dry-heaved over the sink, unable to throw anything up.

Her eyes were rimmed with pink, a thin layer of tears glistening in them.

She took the cup of water Matthew offered, rinsed her mouth, and offered a weak smile. "Thank you."

Matthew's gaze flicked down to her stomach for a fraction of a second before he asked softly, "Is the pregnancy hitting you hard?"

"I'm fine. Let's go back," Yvette said, shaking her head.

As they turned around, they immediately spotted Wynne standing a short distance away, a deep scowl on her face.

Yvette's heart skipped a beat in panic.

*When did she get here? How much did she hear?*

Matthew's expression remained completely unreadable.

Even though Wynne loathed Yvette, she was still her son's wife. Seeing her so incredibly close to another man felt like a public slap in the face—like Yvette was openly making a fool out of Jabez!

But Matthew was Professor Crispin's son. Wynne didn't dare say a word to him.

Between being publicly reprimanded by Sybil earlier and now walking in on this little scene, Wynne felt like steam was about to shoot out of her ears.

Forced to swallow her rage because of Matthew's presence, she offered a few stiff, perfunctory words of concern before spinning on her heel and walking away.

Yvette let out a quiet breath of relief. Wynne clearly hadn't overheard anything important, or she would have been screaming interrogations by now.

Matthew's brows knitted tightly, a cold, protective anger settling over his features. "You need to finalize that divorce with Jabez. Now."

His father treated Yvette like his own daughter. If Professor Crispin found out the Shelby family was treating her this way, he would publicly rip Jabez to shreds.

"Soon. He's already agreed to it," Yvette replied, knowing Matthew was just furious on her behalf.

The banquet finally drew to a close.

Sybil had prepared a mountain of extravagant gifts for Helen. Unable to politely refuse, Helen had her son, Lance, accept them.

The two elderly women exchanged their goodbyes.

"Yvette, see your grandmother out," Sybil said, her tone implying that Yvette was to return to the estate right after.

Shortly after, Willow slowly blinked her eyes open, immediately locking onto Jabez's stunningly handsome face.

"Jabez... what happened?" she asked, her voice deliberately weak.

"You had an allergic reaction to lychees," Jabez said, taking a seat by her bed. "Why were you so careless?"

Hearing his deep, concerned voice, Willow felt a thrill of victory, though she kept her face carefully arranged in a mask of guilt.

"I was just so upset. I wasn't even looking at what I was putting in my mouth. By the time I realized it, I was already dizzy. I'm so sorry, Jabez. I ruined your grandmother's birthday for you."

"It's fine."

"Jabez, what did you and Yvette talk about while you were dancing?" Willow asked, blinking her wide, innocent eyes. Deep down, she was burning with anxiety.

She had seen Jabez willingly initiate a conversation with Yvette, and it had made her incredibly insecure.

"We were discussing the divorce."

Willow feigned a moment of shock before a massive, euphoric wave of triumph washed over her. Still, she had to maintain her sweet, empathetic persona.
