"Is Ms. Yeats willing to go through with it?" she asked, her voice tightening with poorly concealed anxiety.

"Yes," Jabez nodded, his dark eyes completely devoid of emotion.

"Jabez, Sybil... Mrs. Shelby really doesn't like me, does she? She refused to let me call her Grandma, and she wouldn't even look at my family's gift."

Willow lowered her gaze, her long, curled eyelashes trembling as she bit her lip in an exaggerated display of heartbreak.

Jabez reached out, gently smoothing her hair. "Don't worry about it."

Suddenly, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen, and just as he was about to hit decline, Willow spoke up, playing the picture of understanding grace.

"Jabez, I'm feeling much better now. You should go back. It's Mrs. Shelby's birthday, after all."

"I'll head out, then." Jabez grasped his phone and stepped out of the hospital room.

The second he was gone, Rhonda rushed back in, looking frantic. "Willow, why on earth did you let him leave? You were supposed to find a way to keep him here with you!"

"Relax, Mom." A smug, victorious smirk finally spread across Willow's lips. "Jabez and Yvette are getting a divorce."

Rhonda's eyes widened in sheer disbelief, her voice pitching up an octave. "Are you serious?"

Willow nodded emphatically.

"Will Yvette really just agree to let him go that easily?"

"As long as Jabez wants out, she doesn't have a choice!" Willow's eyes flashed with a vicious, cold certainty.

Half an hour later, back at the Shelby Estate.

The moment Jabez walked through the door, he saw Sybil sitting rigidly on the sofa, her face a storm of fury.

Wynne frowned, finally stepping in. "Mom, Jabez feels absolutely nothing for Yvette. If you force them to stay together, they'll be miserable. Don't you want your grandson to spend the rest of his life with someone he actually wants?"

"Yvette is the only woman fit for Jabez!" Sybil slammed her hand down on the coffee table so hard that tea splashed over the rim of the cups.

"Rhonda Yarrow wrecked Winifred's marriage! She was the other woman who tore that family apart!"

"Willow is only a year younger than Yvette. That means Rhonda was sleeping with Quentin Huxley while he was still married! Willow is the daughter of a homewrecker! Do you honestly think she's any different?!"

"And now, she's trying to follow in her mother's footsteps. She wants to play the mistress and steal a husband! Let me make this perfectly clear, Jabez—it is never going to happen!"

"As long as I have breath in my lungs, Willow Huxley will never set foot in the Shelby family!"

Sybil's chest heaved violently as she gasped for air. Terrified, Wynne scrambled to get her blood pressure medication and a glass of water.
