Being around Matthew was comfortable, and more importantly, it made her happy.

If the two of them could be together, it wouldn't be a bad match.

"Aunt Joanne, what are you talking about?" Yvette looked genuinely surprised. "I just see Matthew as an older brother. There's nothing romantic between us at all."

Lance shot his wife a warning glare. "Yvette and Jabez aren't even officially divorced yet. If people heard you saying things like that, how do you think it would reflect on Yvette?"

He quickly turned back to his niece. "Your aunt is just worried about you being on your own. She meant well, so don't take it to heart."

Yvette nodded. "I know."

"Yvette, you've always been independent. I trust you've thought this through completely, but just remember, there are no redos in life," Helen said solemnly.

"I won't regret it, Grandma," Yvette promised with quiet conviction.

—

Kingsbrook General Hospital.

Yvette lay in her hospital bed. She pulled out her phone, sent a quick text message, and deliberately un-sent it exactly one minute later.

Half an hour later, Sybil pushed open the door to her hospital room.

"You were perfectly fine yesterday. Why are you hooked up to an IV today?" Sybil asked, stepping inside while a bodyguard trailed behind her carrying a thermos of soup.

"Sybil, I'm fine, really," Yvette replied just as the doctor walked in.

"Ms. Yeats suffered from severe vomiting due to food poisoning. She needs to remain on an IV drip for two days, stick to a bland diet, and get plenty of rest," the doctor instructed.

Yvette kept her eyes trained on Sybil. When the older woman heard 'food poisoning,' the hopeful gleam that had been hiding in her eyes instantly died out.

Sybil was arguably the only person in the Shelby family Yvette truly trusted.

But her desperation for a great-grandson was too intense. If Sybil found out she was pregnant, even if she permitted the divorce, there was a massive chance the Shelbys would fight to take the baby.

People could call her ungrateful if they wanted to, but this child belonged to her and her alone.

"Alright, I'll eat with you."

The two of them chatted over the meal, the atmosphere warm and lighthearted.

After eating, Sybil stayed for another half an hour.

Noticing the older woman's eyelids beginning to droop, Yvette smiled and gently insisted she go back home for a nap.

Exactly ten minutes after Sybil left the hospital room, Yvette called the nurse in to remove her IV, got out of bed, and left the hospital.

—

Yvette drove straight to the Azure Atelier. Grabbing her purse, she stepped out of the car. Before she had even reached the front doors, a sweet little voice called out to her.

"Yvette!"

Turning around, Yvette barely had time to brace herself before Nola Graham launched herself forward like a tiny cannonball, crashing straight into her arms.
