Yvette simply replied with a brief "Okay" and set her phone down.
Charlotte let out a yawn. "I'll stay and sleep with you tonight. It's been ages since we shared a bed."
"Okay," Yvette nodded softly.
Having Charlotte there chased away so much of the lingering pain Jabez had caused.
...
The next day.
Yvette woke up right at seven. Glancing at Charlotte, who was still sound asleep, she quietly slipped out of bed and left the room.
She pulled out her phone, texted Corbin to request the day off—not caring whether he approved or not—and turned her phone off completely.
She headed downstairs, bought groceries, and started cooking.
Lured by the mouthwatering smell, Charlotte stumbled out of the bedroom, still half-asleep, her eyes locking onto the feast on the table.
It was all of her favorite dishes!
Inhaling deeply, she closed her eyes in pure bliss.
"Yvette, if I were a man, I'd marry you in a heartbeat!"
Yvette's eyes curved into a sweet smile. "Then you'll just have to marry me in your next life."
"Deal!"
The two chatted happily over their meal.
Seeing that Yvette wasn't getting ready to leave, Charlotte asked, confused, "Are you not going to work today?"
"I took the day off." Yvette began clearing the dishes. "I have some personal errands to run later, so I won't be able to hang out with you today."
"You don't need to keep me company. You being happy is all that matters." Charlotte flopped onto the couch, unbothered. "Let's be real, ever since you started at the Shelby Group, you haven't taken a single day off outside of national holidays. That bastard doesn't even appreciate how hard you work."

At the Shelby Group.

On Friday.
When Yvette arrived at the Shelby Group, Ms. Zeller hurried over to her desk. "Ms. Yeats, how come the boss's girlfriend hasn't been around lately? Do you think they broke up?"
Maybe she was resting at home because she's pregnant?
Yvette wasn't one to gossip, so she chose not to respond.
*Ding.*
The elevator doors slid open. Willow stepped out wearing an elegant blue dress, an expensive crocodile leather bag draped over her shoulder.
Beside her, Jabez wore a sharp black suit. The tailored trousers accentuated his long legs, and the luxury watch on his wrist caught the morning sunlight.
They looked absolutely picture-perfect together.
Willow's gaze landed on Yvette, and her perfectly shaped eyebrows twitched slightly.
