Restoring a Life After Seven Years of Wrong Love novel Chapter 161

Yvette thought for a moment and asked tentatively, "Lena?"

Jabez stared at her, his expression cold. After two seconds of silence, he hummed, "Yeah."

Yvette let out a sigh of relief. As long as it wasn't Jabez.

It made sense, anyway. How could a pampered, wealthy heir personally care for an ex-wife who meant nothing to him?

Her fever had broken, leaving her skin covered in a sticky, uncomfortable layer of sweat.

The man sitting on the sofa was entirely focused on his work.

"Jabez, I'm fine now."

Jabez glanced at her, catching the underlying message. He closed his laptop, stood up, and left the room.

Yvette threw off the covers and got out of bed. She opened the closet, pulling out some fresh clothes she hadn't yet packed away.

After taking a shower and changing into a long-sleeved shirt and pants, she headed downstairs to get a drink of water.

"Mrs. Shelby, you're awake!" Lena's voice was full of pleasant surprise.

"Mhm." Yvette drank a glass of water and looked at the housekeeper. "Lena, thank you for taking care of me."

Lena froze for a moment before realizing what she meant.

She quickly clarified, "Mrs. Shelby, Mr. Shelby was the one taking care of you all day yesterday. You refused to take your medication, so he had to stay by your side and apply cold compresses to bring your fever down."

"What?"

Yvette raised her voice in shock.

Why had Jabez told her it was Lena?

But upon closer thought, she understood.

He was afraid she would misunderstand and try to cling to him.

Or perhaps, he was afraid she would use this to provoke Willow.

"I understand," Yvette said, heading back upstairs.

The torrential rain poured on for several days.

Yvette deliberately avoided Jabez. Aside from bumping into each other at mealtimes, they spent the rest of their time in their respective rooms.
