His eyes darkened.
Team One only had Yvette who needed archival paper right now. It was blatantly obvious who Willow was targeting.
He walked over to Restoration Team Two, knocked on the door, and pushed it open.
When Willow saw him, her face lit up with joy, and she hurried over. "Matthew, you're here!"
Her overly familiar tone made it sound as though they were old friends.
"Ms. Huxley." Matthew acted as if he hadn't noticed how she addressed him. "The supervisor said you took all the archival paper. I need to grab two sheets."
Willow's expression froze.
She had planned for Yvette to come begging for it. She would have held the paper hostage, ensuring Yvette missed her restoration deadline.
Then, she would step up and generously "resolve the crisis," making Solstice look highly upon her while completely ruining Yvette's reputation.
But the person standing before her was Matthew. If she wanted to build a good relationship with him, she had to hand the paper over.
However, he hadn't corrected her informal greeting just now. Did that mean he wasn't against being friends with her?
"Sure, let me get them for you."
Matthew didn't miss the flicker of disappointment on her face as her petty scheme fell apart.
He scoffed inwardly.
Willow brought over the stack of archival paper. "Take a look and see which ones work best for you."
Matthew picked out two sheets and smiled politely. "Thank you, Ms. Huxley."
"You're welcome," Willow replied.
Before she could say anything else, he spoke up again, "I need to get back to work."
With that, he didn't even wait for her response and walked right out of Team Two's room.
Matthew handed the paper to Yvette, deciding not to mention that Willow had hoarded all of it in the first place.
There was no need.
Later that day, Yvette left Solstice an hour early to go to the hospital for a checkup.
