"I absolutely forbid this relationship with Willow. You have exactly one week to cut ties with her completely. If you fail to do so, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
"The Shelby family will never allow a mistress to marry in!"
Simon poured a glass of water and handed it to Sybil, gently rubbing her back. "Don't be angry, Grandma. I'll give my brother a piece of my mind in a minute."
Sybil looked him up and down and scoffed. "You? Scold him? Aren't you terrified he'll cut off your credit cards?"
"I'm not scared of him!" Simon puffed up his chest stubbornly.
Just as Sybil brought the glass to her lips, Simon blurted out, "But Grandma, Willow really is great..."
Realizing his angle, Sybil spat the water right back into the cup and shoved it toward him. "I didn't drink it."
Simon tried to hold it in but eventually burst out laughing.
A faint smirk tugged at the corner of Jabez's lips.
Wynne covered her mouth to hide her own smile.
"Grandma, where is your mind going? It's perfectly natural for a grandson to pour you water," Simon said.
"The three of you have completely lost your minds, taking a homewrecker's side! If she was actually a decent person, she wouldn't have gotten involved with a married man in the first place! Yvette is the only woman I'll ever acknowledge as my granddaughter-in-law!"
"You'd all better sever contact with her immediately! I may be old, but I still have enough pull in this city to crush the Huxley family!"
"Mother, Willow saved Jabez's life! How can we bite the hand that fed us?" Wynne argued indignantly.
A dead silence fell over the living room.
"What did you just say?" Sybil's voice pitched up in sheer disbelief. She turned to Jabez for confirmation. "Is your mother telling the truth?"
"Yes." Jabez nodded solemnly. "What she said is true. Years ago, Willow was the one who saved me."
