Only then did Simon realize something was horribly wrong with his grandmother. He scrambled wildly toward Sybil's bedroom, his hands shaking so violently he could barely hold the blood pressure pills.

Seeing him practically useless with panic, Jabez snatched the bottle from him.

He quickly administered the medication to Sybil, but her condition didn't improve. In fact, it escalated aggressively.

What started as a mild tremor rapidly deteriorated into full-body convulsions, her lips turning a terrifying shade of purple.

Simon's face drained of all color.

He had only wanted his grandmother to know the truth so she would stop forcing Jabez and Yvette together.

He never intended to trigger a medical emergency.

Wynne violently shoved Simon's shoulder. "Go tell the driver to pull the car up! Now!"

She frantically muttered under her breath, "God protect us, God protect us."

Snapping out of his paralyzing shock, Simon sprinted out to coordinate the driver.

Jabez's expression was darker than the abyss. He scooped Sybil into his arms and bolted for the front door.

From the backseat of the car, Jabez called Kingsbrook General Hospital to have a trauma team ready.

The second they pulled up, medical staff swarmed the vehicle.

"We've been briefed on the patient's condition. We need to run a CT scan immediately to check for brain hemorrhaging. If there's no bleed, the prognosis is manageable, but if she's hemorrhaging, we may need to operate on standby."

"Yvette... I'm... sorry... Yvette..."

Lying on the stretcher, Sybil repeatedly mumbled Yvette's name in a slurred, desperate voice.

Jabez tightly gripped her wrinkled, trembling hand. "Grandma, she's perfectly fine. As soon as you're stabilized, I'll call her for you."

"He's right, Mother," Wynne chimed in, leaning over the stretcher. "Yvette cares about you more than anyone else in this family. If she finds out you're sick, she'll be out of her mind with worry. Whatever you want, Jabez will agree to it once you're safely out of the woods."

With that, she violently nudged Jabez's elbow, signaling him to play along.

"Yes. Whatever you ask of me, I will do it," Jabez promised, his voice thick and heavy.

Only then did Sybil finally close her eyes as the staff rushed her into the imaging wing.
