“Did you see how Jabez was looking at her? So romantic and full of love. Ah! I’m totally shipping them!”

The chatter of the excited audience buzzed in her ears.

Milton had been watching Yvette closely this entire time.

He noticed the way her knuckles went white when the binoculars landed on Jabez.

He couldn't see her expression when she shifted her view to the stage, as the binoculars hid her eyes, but he assumed the jealousy was eating her alive.

She quickly lowered the lenses. Clearly, she couldn't handle witnessing just how much better Willow was than her.

Seeing Simon sitting safely next to Jabez, a wave of relief finally washed over her.

“Thank you.”

She handed the binoculars back to Milton.

Milton froze for a second, genuinely taken aback.

He had lent them to her specifically so she’d be forced to witness Jabez’s undeniable adoration for Willow.

And yet, she was actually thanking him?

Yvette turned on her heel and headed straight toward Simon.

She stopped right in front of the teenager, but before she could get a word out, another voice cut in.

“Well, well,” Trent drawled, leaning back and crossing one leg over the other. “Ms. Yeats really has an incredible spy network. You always seem to know exactly where Jabez is.”

Yvette ignored him completely, keeping her eyes locked dead on Simon.

For the first time, Simon actually looked away, a flicker of guilt and panic crossing his face.

But then he remembered—she was desperate for his approval. She wouldn't dare rat him out to the family.

Bolstered by that thought, he straightened his spine and glared back at her defiantly.

Hearing the commotion, Jabez finally turned his attention to Yvette. The proud smile he had worn moments ago vanished instantly.

He didn't say a word, just stared at her with a heavy, suffocating gaze.

Yvette felt the oppressive weight of his stare.

He was clearly pissed that she was 'interrupting' them, as if she had actually wanted to be here in the first place.

She pulled out her phone and called Wynne again, but it went to voicemail.

Not wanting to waste another second, Yvette snapped a quick photo of Simon and texted it to her mother-in-law.

As long as she had proof the kid was safe, her job was done. The rest wasn't her problem.

As the competition wrapped up, the crowd began flooding toward the exits.

Simon pulled back the hand he had reflexively reached out to help her. *Serves her right!*

Even if he hadn't faked his disappearance, she still would have found some shameless excuse to stalk his brother here.

There was absolutely no reason to feel sorry for her!

She brought this on herself!

Yvette stayed on the ground for a moment, waiting until she was sure nothing felt severely wrong internally before finally standing up. She turned and walked toward the exit. As she brushed past Jabez, she heard his slow, deliberate voice.

“Don't ever pull a stunt like this again.”

Yvette’s steps faltered for a fraction of a second.

He, just like Trent and the others, was completely convinced she had faked the fall just to touch him.

Did he think he was a hundred-dollar bill that everyone was dying to get their hands on?

In the past, her love had blinded her to his flaws. Now, without the halo she had placed on him, he was nothing to her.

Yvette walked out of the venue without looking back.

Halfway home, her phone chimed with a message from the maternity clinic.

[Ms. Yeats, this is a reminder for your scheduled abortion procedure tomorrow. Please review the pre-op instructions I've sent to your messages...]
