Noticing Willow's gloomy mood, Jabez sharply picked up on her distress.
"How did it go with the Azure Atelier?"
At his words, the others turned their concerned gazes toward her.
Willow pursed her lips. "Mr. Sutton said I could only start as a junior restorer."
"But you graduated from a top international university!" Trent's voice spiked in shock. "How could they offer you a junior role?"
"Given your resume, that really doesn't make sense," Milton agreed, frowning.
"Also, I felt like Ms. Clark was hostile toward me. She kept disrupting me while I was working."
Willow paused before adding, "It felt like... she didn't want me to get in."
"Charlotte Clark?" Trent asked, puzzled.
"Yes," Willow nodded.
"If I remember correctly, isn't she Yvette's best friend?" Milton looked at Jabez for confirmation.
Under their watchful eyes, Jabez gave a slow nod.
"They're very close."
Willow let out a sudden gasp of realization. "Oh, so that's why."
Trent slapped his forehead, dropping his voice conspiratorially. "I went to the atelier yesterday. Guess who I saw?"
Jabez raised an eyebrow.
"Don't tell me it was Yvette?" Milton guessed.
"Bingo." Trent flashed a meaningful smirk. "At the exhibition, Willow mentioned to Matthew that she wanted to join the Azure Atelier, and Yvette just coincidentally gets a job there right before her?"
"I don't buy that it's a coincidence. With Willow's talent, her getting hired was a sure thing. Once she started working there, Jabez would inevitably visit often. Yvette is definitely trying to manufacture opportunities to bump into Jabez."
Not far away, Yvette was walking alongside Matthew when a child suddenly sprinted around the corner.
Unable to dodge in time, Yvette lost her balance and stumbled backward.
Matthew reacted instantly, wrapping an arm around her waist and stopping her from hitting the floor.
Jabez and the others didn't see what caused it; they only saw Yvette falling into Matthew's arms.
From their angle, it looked like Yvette was throwing herself at him.
Trent's face twisted with outright disdain. "I didn't realize she was such a slut! What an eye-opener."
"Oh my," Willow gasped softly in surprise. "Ms. Yeats doesn't seem like that kind of person. It might just be a misunderstanding."
The fact that Willow was still defending Yvette at a time like this made Trent admire her even more.
"The proof is right in front of us. There's no misunderstanding. Not every woman is as capable and classy as you."
