“Jabez, your wife’s ring finger is empty. Take her out to pick a new design later,” Sybil ordered.

Even an old woman like her had over a dozen rings to match different outfits for various occasions.

Yvette having only a single wedding band just didn't look right.

Yvette’s knuckles turned white as she gripped her silverware, hastily refusing. “Grandma, there’s no need. It’s inconvenient for me to wear it daily anyway. Besides, Jabez is too busy with work; he doesn't have the time.”

But Sybil assumed she was just being considerate of her husband. She shot a glare at the silent Jabez. “If he doesn't have time, he needs to make time. You don’t have to feel sorry for him.”

Yvette knew her grandmother had completely misunderstood, but she couldn’t state the real reason, so she kept quiet.

Simon gave a disdainful pout.

*Taking off the ring right before dinner just so Grandma would notice and force my brother to take her shopping?*

*Since when was she this manipulative?*

Wynne shared her son's thoughts, thoroughly convinced Yvette was using this as an excuse to foster romance with Jabez.

“Jabez,” Sybil prompted, looking directly at him as if he weren't already perfectly aware of the conversation.

“Got it,” Jabez replied, setting down his fork. “I’m full. Enjoy the rest of your meal.”

Watching her son being strong-armed by Sybil into doing something he hated, Wynne’s eyes flashed with pity.

If Yvette hadn’t resorted to those underhanded tricks back then, Jabez could have easily married a proper heiress of equal status.

Her glare toward Yvette turned even more hostile.

As Jabez stood up to leave, Yvette quickly rose to her feet. “Grandma, I’m full too.”

She jogged slightly to catch up with him, making Sybil beam with satisfaction.

Yvette was gorgeous and incredibly capable. As long as she didn't give up, Jabez would eventually realize how wonderful she was.

Up ahead, Jabez was looking down at his phone, replying to a message. He seemed to be chatting with someone, the usual frostiness between his brows melting away.

“Jabez, we need to talk,” Yvette called out from behind him.

Joyful Plaza was located right in the heart of Kingsbrook. As long as the operations were sound, it was a guaranteed goldmine.

Yvette fully expected him to reject her outright. She had even mentally prepared herself for a bitter argument.

Instead, he agreed so quickly that it left her momentarily stunned.

*He just agreed? Just like that?*

It went so smoothly it felt surreal.

Then again, Jabez had no reason to lie to her.

Take, for instance, how he openly paraded Willow around as his girlfriend right in front of her.

He hid absolutely nothing from his wife of seven years, showing not a single ounce of guilt for being caught red-handed.

If nothing else, it proved he was above lying.

“My uncle’s birthday is in a few days. My grandmother invited you over for dinner,” she reminded him, just in case he had ignored her previous messages.
