Without a second thought, Matthew scooped Yvette into his arms and carried her over to the sofa—setting her down directly beside Jabez with incredible gentleness.

Instantly, the atmosphere in the lobby shifted, the gazes directed at the two of them turning inquisitive.

Matthew was already a well-known figure, bolstered by his prestigious family background in restoration, his own exceptional talent, and his striking looks.

He had plenty of female admirers, yet he had always maintained a polite, professional distance from the opposite sex.

This was the first time anyone had seen him openly display such undisguised care for a woman in public.

Everyone was mentally reeling, even if they kept their faces composed.

Aside from a single glance when she first tripped, Jabez hadn’t paid Yvette any further attention.

At that moment, he was leaning in, murmuring something to Willow, who was smiling radiantly.

Ironically, Yvette felt a surge of relief that their marriage was a secret.

If the public knew they were married, being ignored by her own husband to this extent would have been utterly humiliating.

Mr. Clark returned with the first-aid kit. Matthew swiftly began disinfecting and dressing the wound with practiced efficiency.

Yvette flinched, instinctively pulling her leg back. “I can do it myself.”

“Don't move. Careful,” Matthew commanded gently. He acted as though he couldn't feel the strange looks burning into them, entirely focused on treating her knee.

“It hurts.”

Hearing her voice, Matthew immediately lightened his touch.

“Bear with it for just a second; it’s almost done. I’ll buy you that cake you love afterward.”

His tone was so soothing—like coaxing a child—that it drew side-eyes from both Willow and Mr. Clark. Even Jabez looked over.

Jabez’s dark eyes fixed on the two of them, unreadable and deep, before he looked away just seconds later.

A flash of irritation crossed Willow’s eyes. *Yvette actually managed to win Matthew's favor?*

It rubbed her the wrong way.

Mr. Clark, on the other hand, was purely astonished.

*See, Yvette? Even if you pull stunts in front of Jabez, you still won’t get an ounce of his attention!*

“She’s a junior restorer at the Azure Atelier,” Willow chimed in smoothly.

Mr. Clark looked surprised. A junior restorer brought along by Matthew himself?

Clearly, their relationship wasn't simple.

Completely unaware of the conversation behind them, Yvette was taken to the hospital.

The doctor confirmed her ankle wasn't fractured and just needed a few days of rest.

Matthew drove her straight home. Passing a bakery on the way, he pulled over and bought a blueberry cake.

“Your favorite. Make sure you rest properly for the next few days. Don't come into the studio,” Matthew instructed.

“Thank you, Matthew,” Yvette said, a warm prickle of emotion rising in her eyes.

She had never regretted her past love for Jabez more than she did right now.
