Inside the CEO's office at the Shelby Group.

Jabez sat in his black leather executive chair, answering a call from his grandmother.

“Jabez, bring Yvette back to the main estate for dinner tonight.”

“She got hurt. It’s not very convenient,” Jabez replied smoothly.

Sybil’s voice instantly pitched higher, laced with panic. “What happened to Yvette? Where is she hurt? Why didn't you tell me sooner? I’m coming over to the villa tonight with some wellness baskets to see her.”

She fired off the questions like a machine gun; Jabez couldn't have gotten a word in even if he tried.

With that, she abruptly hung up, presumably to start packing the gifts.

Jabez massaged his temples and opened his chat history with Yvette.

It was only then he suddenly realized just how long it had been since she had initiated a conversation with him.

Not that he particularly cared.

He dialed her number.

It was picked up quickly. Her voice was a little raspy, sounding like she had just woken up.

“What is it?”

Jabez paused for a second. “Grandma said she’s coming to the villa tonight to visit you.”

Yvette checked the time. It was already five in the afternoon. It would take her an hour to get from her apartment to the villa.

Plus, she had hurt her right leg and couldn't drive.

She didn't want to deal with the hassle.

“Make up an excuse and tell her not to come,” she said.

Jabez fell silent for a few seconds, seemingly caught off guard by her response.

“You tell her yourself,” Jabez finally said.

Yvette choked on her words. *How am I supposed to tell her?* Grandma was coming out of the goodness of her heart. If Yvette refused her visit, the old lady would definitely get suspicious.

After all, she had never turned down a visit from Sybil before.

Yvette turned, watching the slightly hunched silhouette bustling about the kitchen, and a wave of tightness gripped her throat.

“Grandma, please don’t fuss over it. Come sit and chat with me,” Yvette called out.

Sybil walked over, taking Yvette’s hand as they settled into casual conversation.

Somehow, Sybil expertly steered the topic toward pregnancy.

“Why haven’t you hung up that fertility charm painting I gave you?” Sybil asked.

She had deliberately scanned the ground floor and didn't spot it anywhere.

Thankfully, Yvette had prepared an excuse well in advance. Without a trace of panic, she answered calmly, “The restoration isn't finished yet. As soon as it’s done, I promise I’ll hang it right up. You’ll definitely see it the next time you visit.”

“Where exactly did you want to hang it, Grandma?” a deep, steady voice suddenly echoed from the foyer.

Both women jumped, their heads snapping toward the doorway.

Jabez was shrugging off his suit jacket and loosening his tie. Two buttons of his crisp white shirt were undone, and his sleeves were rolled up to his forearms, revealing strong veins and lending him a quietly magnetic, untouchable aura.
