Her words instantly set off alarm bells in Yvette's head, her fingers unconsciously gripping the fabric of the sofa.

Wynne cast a side-glance at Yvette and chimed in, "Mother, she's been married to Jabez for seven years. If she were going to get pregnant, she would have done it by now. If you ask me, it's just wishful thinking infiltrating your dreams."

Simon quickly agreed, "Yeah, Grandma. If Yvette... I mean, if my sister-in-law was pregnant, there's no way my brother wouldn't know. And since he hasn't said a word, there's obviously no baby."

Sybil murmured to herself, "Could it really just be my imagination?"

Seeing that Sybil was slightly swayed, Yvette hurriedly added, "It's true, Grandma. Don't you remember? Half a month ago I had terrible cramps, and I even asked Lena for a hot water bottle and painkillers."

Half a month ago, she had indeed experienced stomach cramps and asked for painkillers.

Sybil was aware of this.

"Ah, I must be getting old and confused."

Wynne eyed Yvette's flat stomach and said coldly, "Yvette, never mind a prominent household like the Shelbys, even ordinary families want an heir. Boy or girl, the Shelby family needs a child. As Mrs. Shelby, providing an heir is your absolute duty. I'll arrange a full-body checkup for you tomorrow, and I'll go with you."

Simon curled his lip. Was his future niece or nephew really going to come from Yvette?

Yvette immediately rejected the idea. "My health is perfectly fine. I don't need a full-body checkup."

If she went to the hospital for a full exam, her pregnancy would immediately be exposed.

Although Wynne couldn't stand her, if she found out Yvette was actually carrying a Shelby heir, she would resort to any ruthless tactic to steal the child away.

She couldn't risk it.

"Yvette, your mother-in-law is right. Getting checked out can only do you good. Let Wynne go with you," Sybil said, her sharp eyes studying Yvette closely.

Yvette knew that if she continued to refuse at this point, it would look incredibly suspicious.

It would only raise red flags for both Sybil and Wynne.

"Alright," she had no choice but to agree.

Footsteps sounded from the stairs.

Jabez, dressed in casual white loungewear, looked completely unfazed to see Yvette sitting in the living room.

"What are you all talking about?"

"Jabez, we're talking about my future nieces or nephews," Simon blinked playfully.

Jabez's probing gaze shifted to Yvette.

Feeling his eyes on her, Yvette's body stiffened, though she fought to keep her expression perfectly neutral.

"Jabez, I dreamt of a great-granddaughter last night. This has to be a sign from above," Sybil said joyfully. "Tomorrow, your mother is taking Yvette for a full health screening. If everything looks good, the two of you need to start preparing for a baby."

So, to her, Simon's excuse made perfect sense, and she didn't try to stop him.

Yvette could only watch helplessly as Simon dragged Jabez away.

The discussion about Joyful Plaza and the divorce would have to wait for another day.

"Grandma, I have some things to take care of, so I'll be going now," Yvette said, rising and leaving the estate.

-

The next morning at eight o'clock.

Yvette received a call from Wynne.

"Once you're ready, head straight to Kingsbrook General Hospital. I'm leaving now."

"Understood."

With that, the phone was abruptly hung up.

Yvette drove to Kingsbrook General.

Upon arriving, Wynne eyed Yvette's outfit with immediate distaste. "Does Jabez not buy you clothes? You look completely shabby. Put some effort into your appearance when you leave the house, or you're just going to embarrass the Shelby family."
