A look of surprise crossed Milton's eyes.
Perhaps because she grew up without a mother, Nola was far more sensitive and timid than most children.
She never approached strangers on her own, let alone asked them for things.
It seemed she truly liked this "pretty lady" she was talking about.
Milton examined the necklace closely. It was Hermes, probably worth around ten thousand dollars or so.
"Next time we see that lady, let's give it back to her, okay? Daddy will buy you a brand-new one," Milton coaxed, gently stroking her soft hair.
"No!" Nola snatched the necklace back from him, her dark eyes flashing with defensive alarm.
"Alright, alright. Next time we see her, Daddy will buy it from her."
"Thank you, Daddy!"
At 5:00 PM.
Yvette left the Azure Atelier and drove back to the Yeats Family residence.
While stopped at a red light, she caught sight of the construction workers outside Joyful Plaza out of the corner of her eye. Her expression turned icy.
When the light turned green, Yvette slammed on the gas.
Both Lance and her grandmother, Helen, were home.
"Uncle Lance, Grandma," Yvette greeted them with a soft smile. "Look what I brought."
She opened the box and placed it on the table.
"What is it? Why so mysterious?" Lance asked as he unrolled the scroll.
The moment the painting was revealed, both Lance and Helen froze in sheer shock.
Tears welled up in Helen's eyes. She raised her wrinkled, trembling hand and gently traced the artwork. Her lips quivered.
"This is your grandfather's work. Your uncle loved animals when he was a little boy, so he painted this for him."
"When Matthew came out of the kitchen after washing the fruit, the way he looked at her was so incredibly tender. And think about it—he deliberately cooked all of her favorite foods. When she tried to help carry the plates, he wouldn't even let her touch them, terrified she might burn herself."
"I can't put my finger on it, but I swear Matthew's feelings for Yvette go way beyond a simple boss-and-employee dynamic."
"You're overthinking it. He was always this protective of her, even before she got married," Lance reasoned, shaking his head.
"Charlotte was there too, but you didn't see him treating her with that same level of obsessive care, did you?" Joanne countered, refusing to back down.
Hearing her point out that specific detail, Lance finally realized there might be some truth to it.
However, respecting Yvette's autonomy, he sighed, "Whatever happens, Yvette is perfectly capable of handling her own life. Let's just stay out of it."
The moment Yvette stepped inside her own house, her phone buzzed with a text message.
Doctor: [Ms. Yeats, it's time for your prenatal checkup. Please remember to come to the hospital tomorrow.]
Yvette: [Got it.]
