Kingsbrook General Hospital.
Staring at his phone, Simon Shelby caught a whiff of a familiar perfume and looked up.
A woman who looked exactly like Yvette Yeats was walking a short distance away.
After tailing her for ten minutes, he confirmed it was indeed Yvette.
He hadn't heard anything about her being sick. What was she doing at the hospital?
His brother was visiting a patient here today, and she just happened to show up? This was way too much of a coincidence.
He took the elevator upstairs and found the ward Jabez Shelby was in.
Simon didn't go inside; he hated dealing with all those fake pleasantries.
After waiting at the door for about twenty minutes, Jabez finally finished his conversation.
Meanwhile.
Yvette walked out of the doctor's office. She looked down at the tiny, bean-sized embryo on her ultrasound scan, her lips unconsciously curving into a smile.
Recalling the sound of the fetal heartbeat in the examination room, a strange, wondrous feeling bloomed in her chest.
She folded the scan, took a step forward, and immediately heard Simon's voice.
Jabez stepped out of the room and saw Simon waiting. "What are you—"
"Come on, we need to go right now. If we don't leave, we'll be late," Simon interrupted, grabbing Jabez's arm and dragging him away.
He was terrified of them bumping into Yvette and letting her get her way.
The smile froze on Yvette's face.
From her spot around the corner, she peeked out and saw Simon pulling Jabez straight toward her direction.
Her chest tightened, her palms growing sweaty. It was too late to turn back now.
She had to take a gamble.
Slowing her breathing, she pressed herself flat against the wall, praying to God that Jabez wouldn't notice her.
But the more you fear something, the more likely it is to happen.
As the two men walked past her, Yvette quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Let me see that."
Yvette's heart hammered against her ribs. She had forgotten to shove the scan into her purse.
Her entire body tensed up as his fingers brushed the corner of the paper.
A dense layer of sweat broke out on her forehead, a drop tracing down her cheek.
At that moment, it felt as if a wad of cotton was shoved down her throat, rendering her speechless.
"Jabez, Willow just called looking for you," Simon's voice rang out from behind.
Jabez's long fingers immediately released the paper, and he turned around without a second's hesitation. "I have somewhere to be. I'm leaving."
Yvette didn't respond, her eyes filled with mockery as she watched him walk away.
The man who had looked so concerned about her just a second ago was now rushing off to dote on his public girlfriend.
If Jabez hadn't been in such a hurry to leave, he would have discovered the baby's existence.
If he ever found out that he had missed out on his child because of Willow Huxley, would he regret it?
