Chapter 12 Longer-range vacuum ability

She spent the remainder of the evening raiding the local luxury mall. She purchased industrial metal shelving units, heavy-duty storage bins, and specialized heirloom gardening tools, directing the merchants to ship everything directly to her hotel suite. She didn’t buy mass emergency rations yet-it was far smarter to let the big-box distributors hoard the food for her until Thanksgiving weekend, when she would simply walk into the abandoned warehouses and take it all for free.
Her final stop was an elite estate jeweler on the upper concourse. While they were low on raw emeralds, Joanna systematically bought out their entire inventory of loose investment diamonds, rare violet tanzanite, and heavy bullion gold. The store owner was so ecstatic over the historic commission that she personally wrapped the cases and offered to hand-deliver them to Joanna’s hotel suite within the hour.
Before heading back, Joanna stopped by a grocery kiosk and bought a premium gallon of gourmet ice cream. Walking down the corridor, she tested her newly evolved spatial awareness. In her dream, her level-one ability required her to maintain direct physical contact with an object to store it.
Now, she simply glanced at the heavy grocery bag swinging in her hand. She placed it down on the ground and when no one was looking, she stepped back 5 steps and concentrated.
Without moving her fingers and with only her mind, the gallon of ice cream vanished instantly from inside the plastic wrapper, seamlessly appearing on the kitchen counter of her mental stone villa.
A thrill of dark anticipation shot through her chest. With a passive, longer-range vacuum ability like this, raiding the shipping ports and military depots on the eve of the apocalypse was going to be an absolute bloodbath.
After a hot shower, she changed into a pair of soft, silk pajamas and climbed under the covers. Reaching onto the nightstand, she pulled out the final heirloom pieces: her grandmother’s emerald teardrop earrings.
She had blacked out for three agonizing hours after absorbing the ring. Her instincts warned her that bonding the twin earrings would exact an even more brutal evolutionary toll. To buffer the impact, she quickly chugged two full glasses of the rejuvenating spring water, pulled the duvet tightly to her chin, and took a deep breath.
Joanna focused her intent, pressing the emerald facets between her palms. She channeled her energy into the stones, seeking the same resonance she felt with the ring. She put her earrings on both her ears. Then with a quick bite of her fingertip, a drop of blood
Instantly, the gems flared with a blinding, green light, dissolving through her skin.

A sudden, catastrophic spike of agony lacerated her mind. A violent wave of nausea hit her chest like a physical hammer. It was exponentially worse than the ring’s activation. Desperate for sanctuary, Joanna tried to plunge her consciousness into her pocket dimension, but she hit a solid, unyielding barrier. Her own soul had locked her out. The sheer, excruciating friction of the system upgrade tore through her nerves, forcing her conscious mind to collapse into total darkness. She felt like she could hear that familiar voice in her consciousness saying “Don’t worry, you will be alright.” Then nothing.
When Joanna finally opened her eyes, a soft morning glow was filtering through the hotel curtains. She checked the digital clock, her jaw dropping. She had been unconscious for twelve consecutive hours.
Yet, as she sat up, the expected grogginess never arrived. She felt entirely reborn. Her physical senses were hyper-acute, and a profound, dense energy vibrated beneath her skin. She reached for her glass of spring water, drinking it down as she prepared to inspect her mental domain.
But the moment her consciousness brushed the boundary of the space, a bizarre, foreign sensation gripped her equilibrium.
In a single, breathless blink, the luxury hotel room and the king-sized bed completely vanished.
Joanna found herself standing physically on the hardwood floor of her mental stone villa.
She froze, her breath catching in her throat as she looked down at her own bare feet touching the interior rug. I am physically inside my own space.
It was a staggering, reality-bending revelation. Before her mind could fully process the shock, she expanded her awareness. To her absolute amazement, she discovered she could still see the empty hotel room perfectly from a detached, omniscient mental perspective. She was entirely removed from the physical plane, yet she possessed an active, real-time radar of the outside world.
