Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 104

CHAPTER 65

The first sign that something was wrong came just after six in the evening. Lawson Customs had finally gone quiet and I stood behind the reception desk finishing the last invoice of the day while

Ben cleaned the workbench.

Outside, the sun was dropping behind the buildings, and the familiar golden light stretched across

the pavement.

“Everything done?” Ben asked as he looked up from the computer.

“Everything except the collector’s motorcycle.” I said.

I glanced toward the rare vintage machine sitting beneath its protective cover.

“That one’s going nowhere tonight.” I said.

“Good. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He said as he grabbed his jacket.

“Drive safely.” I said.

“You too.” He said.

After Ben left, I checked the locks, switched off the workshop lights and headed upstairs.

Diesel greeted me immediately and I scratched his ears before changing out of my work clothes.

I showered quickly, brushed my teeth, pulled on clean jeans and a dark jacket, and grabbed my

keys.

By then the street outside was almost empty so I locked the garage door and climbed into my

truck. Nothing seemed unusual.

I drove away from Lawson Customs and headed toward the clubhouse.

The first few blocks passed normally and then I noticed the motorcycle. It was several cars behind

Black and Large.

The rider wore a dark helmet and jacket, so I couldn’t see his face. I didn’t think much of it at first. Motorcycles were common around town and the problem came when I turned left.

The motorcycle turned left too and I continued straight for another three blocks before turning

right and the rider followed.

My grip tightened slightly around the steering wheel. I didn’t panic. Panic made people careless.

Instead, I treated the situation like any other problem. Observe, test and confirm.

Clavor

turned into a small shopping district that wasn’t on my usual route and the motorcycle remained

behind me.

I passed two intersections before making another unexpected turn and the rider stayed with me. That was enough. I was being followed.

My first instinct was to call Jace. My second was to lead the rider somewhere safe.

The clubhouse was less than ten minutes away and if the rider intended to approach me, he would

have to do it while surrounded by the Iron Vipers.

I wasn’t going to confront him alone so I increased my speed slightly, although I stayed within the

limit.

The motorcycle followed and I smiled faintly.

“Wrong decision.” I said.

I took a long route toward the clubhouse, deliberately avoiding the roads I normally used so the rider didn’t know where I was going.

At least, I hoped he didn’t. Every few seconds I checked the mirrors and he remained there.

When I reached the final intersection, I pulled out my phone and sent Jace a quick message.

I’m being followed. Black motorcycle. Rider in dark helmet. I’m heading toward the clubhouse.

His reply came almost instantly.

Don’t stop. We’re watching the entrance.

Relief loosened something in my chest as I continued driving.

The clubhouse gates appeared ahead and I could already see several motorcycles parked outside.

I slowed just enough to make the rider believe I hadn’t noticed him. Then I turned through the

gates.

The moment I entered the compound, the rider accelerated and he suddenly realized what was happening.

I watched him in the rearview mirror as he slammed on the brakes, swung the motorcycle around

and disappeared back down the road.

Jace and Derek were already running toward me when I stopped.

I climbed out and Jace reached me first.

“Are you okay?” Jace asked.

“I’m fine.” I said.

“Did he approach you?” He asked.

“No.” I said.

“Did you get a look at him?” He asked.

“Not his face. Black motorcycle, dark helmet, black jacket, probably six feet tall.” I said as I pointed toward the road and Derek looked toward the gate.

“How long?” Derek asked.

“About fifteen minutes.” I said.

“And you drove here?” He asked.

“I changed routes three times.” I said as Jace stared at me.

“You knew immediately?” He asked.

“I suspected after the second turn.” I said and he shook his head slowly.

“Paige.” He said.

“What?” I asked.

“You handled that perfectly.” He said and I smiled.

“Uncle Will taught me not to panic.” I said.

Jace stepped closer and gently rested a hand against my shoulder.

“You didn’t do anything reckless.” He said.

“I considered it. But I decided you would complain.” I said and his eyebrows lifted.

“I absolutely would have.” He said and I laughed.

The tension finally began leaving my body and Derek returned from the gate.

“He disappeared.” Derek said.

“Any cameras?” I asked.

“Two at the entrance.” He said.

“Good.” I said and Jace looked at me again.

“You did the right thing.” Jace said.

“Lknew I couldn’t outrun him forever.” I said.

“So

you brought him here.” Jace said.

“Exactly.” I said and he smiled.

“Smart.” He said and I leaned against the truck.

“I wasn’t going to play hero.” I said.

“Good.” He said.

“I have people who’d kill me if I did something stupid.” I said and Jace’s expression softened.

“I’d prefer keeping you alive without the killing part.” Jace said and I laughed.

“That’s probably healthier.” I said.

We spent the next hour reviewing the clubhouse cameras. The motorcycle appeared briefly at the gate before disappearing from view and the rider had kept his helmet on the entire time. No face.

No license plate. Nothing useful but the message was obvious. Someone was watching me.

Someone wanted me to know it.

That night, after I finally went upstairs at the garage, Jace walked me to the door.

“Lock it.” Jace said.

“I always do.” I said.

“Check the windows.” He said.

“I always do that too.” I said.

“Call me if anything feels wrong.” He said.

“I will.” I said so he kissed my forehead.

“Get some sleep.” He said.

“I’ll try.” I said.

After he left, I locked the door, checked the windows and climbed into bed with Diesel curled

against my feet.

I stared at the ceiling for several minutes. I wasn’t afraid. Not exactly. But I knew something had

changed.

The Black Reapers weren’t just watching Lawson Customs anymore. They were watching me.
