Summary for Chapter 486: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 486

CHAPTER 256-1

The familiar figure walking toward us was Damien.

For several seconds, I stared because I had not expected to see him again, especially not

here after everything that had happened.

Jace noticed my reaction immediately, and his hand settled against my lower back as he

watched Damien approach.

The engines were off, the laughter had disappeared, and everyone seemed to understand that

whatever Damien had come to say mattered.

Damien stopped several feet away and slowly lifted both hands.

“I’m not here to cause trouble. I swear that I’m not.” He said.

Jace’s expression remained hard, but he nodded once.

“You’ve got five minutes.” Jace said.

Damien swallowed, and for the first time since I had known him, he looked like a man who

had finally run out of excuses.

“I heard Victor was arrested, and I heard the war was over. I also heard about everything that

happened with Sarah, Kyle, and the rest of it.” He said as his eyes moved toward me.

“I heard about what happened to you.” He added and I folded my arms.

“You already knew enough to understand what Victor was capable of.” I said.

“I did.” He said.

His answer came quietly, without an attempt to defend himself and Damien looked at Jace

again.

“I spent years thinking the club was the only life I had, and I convinced myself loyalty meant

following men like Victor, even when I knew things were wrong.” Damien said as Jace’s jaw

tightened.

“Knowing something was wrong and doing nothing about it still makes you part of the

problem.” Jace said.

“I know. That’s why I’m here.” Damien said.

The wind moved through the trees behind Lawson Customs while everyone waited for him to

continue.

“I left.” Damien said as Jace narrowed his eyes.

“Left what?” Jace asked.

“The outlaw life.” Damien said.

Damien looked down briefly before meeting Jace’s stare again.

“I walked away from the club, the guns, the contacts, everything. I turned over what I had, and

I gave the authorities everything I knew about the people who were still involved.” He

explained.

Nobody spoke, so Damien continued.

“I found a job in another town, and I’m starting over. It isn’t glamorous, and nobody cares who

I used to be, but that’s exactly what I wanted.” He said as I studied him.

“Why did you come here?” I asked and his expression softened.

“Because I owed you an apology.” He said.

Jace’s hand tightened against my back as Damien looked directly at me.

“Paige, I’m sorry. I’m sorry for every part I played in the war, and I’m sorry people like Victor

were able to use people like me to hurt others. I can’t undo anything, and I don’t expect you to

forgive me.” He added.

There had been a time when I wanted everyone connected to the Black Reapers to suffer for

what they had done, because anger had been easier than forgiveness.

Now, standing beside Jace with my baby moving beneath my heart, I realized I didn’t need

Damien to suffer or revenge to make things right.

I simply needed him to stay away from that life.

“I appreciate the apology. I hope you mean what you said.” I said.

“I do.” He said and Jace stepped forward.

“Then listen carefully.” Jace said and Damien nodded.
