Summary for Chapter 129: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 129

CHAPTER 81-1

Paige’s POV

The phone call came just after sunrise. I was standing behind the reception counter reviewing invoices while Mia argued with a supplier över delivery times.

Diesel slept beside the front desk and Ben worked on Oliver Hayes’s restoration project.

For a few brief moments, everything felt normal. Then my phone rang and the moment I saw Jace’s name, my stomach tightened and I answered immediately.

“Jace?” I answered and his voice came through the speaker.

“I’m okay.” He said as my heart skipped.

I hadn’t even asked a question yet. That alone told me something was wrong.

“What happened?” I asked and a brief silence followed.

“There was an ambush.” He said and the room suddenly felt colder as my grip tightened around

the phone.

“Are you hurt?” I asked.

“No.” He said.

“Don’t lie to me.” I said and a small laugh escaped him.

“I’m not.” He said so I closed my eyes.

Relief flooded through me so fast that my knees felt weak.

“Tell me what happened.” I said.

“We got hit by the Black Reapers.” He said.

The words made my stomach drop all over again.

“Was anyone killed?” I asked.

“No.” He said.

“Seriously injured?” I asked.

“No.” He said and I released a slow breath.

Thank God.

“We’re heading back now.” He said.

CHAPTER 81 1

“How long?” I asked.

“A couple of hours.” He said and I nodded even though he couldn’t see me.

“Drive safe.” I said.

“I will.” He said and the call ended.

I stood motionless for several seconds and Mia immediately noticed.

“What happened?” She said and I looked up.

“The convoy got ambushed.” I said as the office went silent. Ben stopped working and Mia lowered her paperwork. Even Diesel lifted his head.

“How bad?” Mia asked.

“They’re alive.” I said and relief crossed her face.

“Good.” She said.

That was all she said because around here, alive was what mattered most.

The next few hours dragged endlessly and I tried working but I failed.

I tried organizing paperwork and I failed at that too.

Every time a vehicle drove past the garage, I looked toward the windows and every time my phone vibrated, my heart jumped.

By midmorning I had reorganized the same stack of invoices three separate times and Mia finally grabbed them from my hands.

“Stop.” Mia said.

“What?” I asked.

“You’re making me nervous.” She said as I looked down.

The paperwork was upside down and apparently I hadn’t noticed.

“They’re coming back.” She said.

“I know.” I said.

“Jace is fine.” She said.

“I know.” I said.

“You are driving me insane.” She said and I laughed despite myself.

CHAPTER 81 1

“Sorry.” I said.

“Not accepted.” She said.

The attempt at humor helped a little. Not much but enough.

Clair

Around noon the sound of motorcycles finally echoed through the parking lot and I was moving before I consciously decided to move.

The office door flew open and I practically ran outside. Several club motorcycles rolled into the lot.

Two trucks followed behind them and the damage became visible immediately. Bullet holes,

broken mirrors, cracked fairings and shattered windshields.

My stomach twisted as the convoy looked like it had driven through a war zone. Maybe it had.

The moment I spotted Jace, everything else disappeared and I crossed the lot quickly.
