CHAPTER 83-2

And that’s exactly what you’re going to keep doing.” He said.

I looked at him, and despite everything, his certainty steadied something inside me so Derek

cleared his throat.

“We’re tightening security.” Derek said as I turned toward him.

“What does that mean?” I asked.

“It means nobody comes near this building without one of us knowing about it. We’ll rotate watches, check the surrounding streets, and increase the cameras.” He explained.

“I already have cameras.” I said.

“And we’re adding more.” He said so I sighed.

“Great, because apparently my little motorcycle shop needs to look like Fort Knox.” I said.

Hunter chuckled from across the room, but Jace didn’t smile.

“This isn’t funny, Paige.” Jace said.

“I know.” I said as I grabbed a rag and started wiping the coffee from the counter even though it was already clean.

“I just want one normal day.” I said.

Jace watched me for several seconds, and then he walked around the counter and stopped directly in front of me.

“You’ll have one.” He said.

“When?” I asked.

“When this is over.” He said and I looked up at him.

“And if it doesn’t end?” I asked as his jaw tightened.

“Then we’ll make sure you stay safe until it does.” He said.

The words should have comforted me, and somehow they did, but there was still an uncomfortable feeling crawling beneath my skin.

Someone had been watching my shop. Someone had been photographing my life. Someone had been close enough to study every entrance and exit, and I didn’t know how long they’d been doing

The rest of the morning passed in a strange haze, because I tried to work while Derek checked the cameras and Hunter inspected the locks. I worked on a customer’s bike, changed the oil, replaced

worn belt and answered three phone calls, but every time a vehicle slowed outside, my eyes automatically lifted toward the window.

By lunch, I was exhausted. I washed my hands in the small sink, scrubbed the grease from beneath my fingernails and headed upstairs with a sandwich because I needed ten minutes away from

everyone.

I had barely taken two bites when there was a knock on my apartment door and then Jace’s voice

came through the wood.

“It’s me.” Jace sang out so I opened the door and he stood there holding another coffee.

“I figured you needed this.” He said so I took it from him, and my fingers brushed his.

“Thank you.” I said and he leaned against the doorway.

“You okay?” He asked and I gave him a tired smile.

“Define okay.” I said and his mouth twitched.

“You’ve still got your attitude.” He said.

“That’s because nobody has managed to scare that out of me yet.” I said.

He stepped inside and for a moment, everything felt almost normal. Then his phone rang. Jace glanced at the screen, and his expression changed.

“What?” I asked.

He listened for several seconds, and his eyes shifted toward me.

“You’re sure?” He asked and another pause followed.

“Send it to me.” He said.

He ended the call and stared at the screen.

“What is it?” I asked but he didn’t answer immediately.

“Jace?” I asked.

“Derek found something.” He said and my stomach tightened.

“What?” I asked.

Jace turned the phone toward me, but before I could see the screen clearly, another notification

appeared.

CHAPTER 83 2

It was a message from an unknown number and there was one photograph attached. It was Lawson Customs.

The picture had been taken from across the street.

I recognized the front windows, the motorcycles parked outside and the entrance where I had stood that morning.

Then I noticed the timestamp. The photograph hadn’t been taken today. It had been taken yesterday and my blood ran cold.

“They’ve been watching us longer than we thought.” I said as Jace’s expression became grim.

“We’re going to find out who.” He said.

Neither of us knew that the answer had already reached the man behind the operation.
