Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 288
CHAPTER 163-1
Jace’s POV
The clubhouse was quieter than usual the following morning, because the celebration from the night before had disappeared beneath the weight of what Ethan had uncovered.
I sat at the conference table with Ethan and Qwen, while Derek stood near the wall with his arms crossed, and the laptop in front of Ethan displayed pages of transactions that seemed determined to make my headache worse.
“Start from the beginning.” I said as Ethan rubbed his eyes before scrolling back through the records.
“We know someone accessed the business accounts before, and we originally thought the money was being siphoned through one company.” Ethan said as Owen shook his head.
“It wasn’t one company.” Owen said.
“How many?” I asked.
“We have identified seven so far.” Ethan replied as I stared at him.
“Seven?” I asked.
“Seven confirmed shell companies, and there could be more.” He said as Derek pushed away from the
wall.
“How did we miss them?” Derek asked.
“Because they weren’t operating like obvious shell companies. They were registered businesses, they filed paperwork, they had bank accounts, and some of them even had legitimate customers.” Owen explained as I leaned forward.
“So somebody created fake companies that looked real.” I said.
“Exactly. Then they used legitimate businesses as the middle layer.” Ethan said and I looked at the spreadsheet.
“How?” I asked as Owen pointed toward the screen.
“Money leaves one account and goes to a company that appears to provide consulting, equipment transport, security services, or logistics. That company then sends smaller amounts to another business, and that second business sends part of it somewhere else.” Owen explained.
“And eventually it reaches whoever is actually behind it.” I said.
“that’s what we think.” He said as I leaned back in my chair.
