CHAPTER 24-1

By Thursday morning Lawson Customs was busier than it had every been.

Motorcycles lined the parking lot before I’d even unlocked the roller door, Mia alaready had a fresh pot of coffee brewing in the office and Ben was sweeping the workshop floor while quietly repeating the service schedule to himself.

He looked up as I walked downstairs.

“Morning.” Ben said.

“Morning.” I said.

“I made a list.” He said.

I accepted the clipboard he handed me and every motorcycle waiting outside had been written down in near handwriting, complete with customer names, phone numbers and the problems they’d described over the phone.

“You’re becoming organized.” I smiled.

“Mia threatened me with color coded folders.” He siad.

“That sounds terrifying.” I said.

“It really was.” He said.

I laughed before unlocking the front door and within minutes the workshop filled with the familiar sounds of engines, air tools and customers discussing everything from oil changes to custom

exhaust system.

For the first time since inheriting Lawson Customs, I wasn’t wondering whether the business

would survive another month.

Now I was wondering how I was ever going to keep up.

Mia stepped out of the office holding another clipboard.

“You’ve got a customer picking up his Street Glide at ten.” Mia said.

“Alright.” I said.

“You’ve also got two estimates waiting.” She said.

“I’ll get to them.” I said.

“And George called.” She said causing me to look up.

“What happened?” I asked.

“He wanted to know whether you’ve remembered to eat breakfast.” She said and I smiled.

“He’s becoming everyone’s grandfather.” I said.

“He also said if you skip lunch again, he’s telling Emma.” She said and I sighed dramatically.

“I’ve somehow collected an entire committee.” I said.

“You really have.” She said.

The familiar rumble of motorcycles echoed through the parking lot before Mia could say anything else and I looked through the office window.

Six Iron Vipers rolled neatly into their usual spots and Ben looked over my shoulder.

“They’re back.” Ben said.

“I noticed.” I said and he grinned.

“You don’t sound surprised.” Ben said.

“I’ve started measuring time by how often Hunter appeared carrying donuts.” I said.

Almost on cue, Hunter climbed off his motorcycle with a white bakery box balanced under one

arm.

“I heard my name.” Hunter said.

“That’s because you’re predictable.” I said.

“I prefer reliable.” He said.

“You brought sugar.” I said.

“I also brought motorcycles.” He said.

“I noticed that too.” I said.

Jace removed his helmet while the rest of the club parked beside him.

Every one of the bikes looked clean and every one of them had somehow developed another

reason to visit Lawson Customs.

I slowly walked around the row pretendiong to inspect them one by one.

“Hmm.” I said.

“What?” Hunter frowned.

CHAPTER 24-1

I crouched beside one of the bikes before standing again.

“I’ve figured it out.” I said and Jace folded his arms.

“Should we be worried?” He asked.

“I think so. You lot are deliberately breaking your own motorcycles.” I said.

The parking lot became strangely quiet and Derek blinked.

“We’re doing what?” Derek asked.

“You heard me.” I said and Hunter immediately shook his head.

“We would never.” Hunter said and I pointed to the third motorcycle.
