“She gave me a job when I needed one.” Mia said and Ben stepped forward.

“She gave me a chance to become a real mechanic.” Ben said as Aiden nodded.

“She trusted me enough to bring me into the team.” Aiden said as Jace squeezed my hand.

“And every person standing in this room has been touched by what she built.” Jace said as I looked

around.

These people had become my family. Some had stood beside me during the worst days of my life.

Some had protected me. Some had made me laugh when I wanted to scream. Some had challenged me. Some had believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.

“I don’t know what to say.” I said as Ethan raised his hand.

“That’s a first.” Ethan said and everyone laughed so I pointed at him.

“Don’t ruin my emotional moment.” I said and he grinned.

“I wouldn’t dream of it.” He said and Jace laughed before turning serious again.

“There is one more reason we wanted everyone here tonight.” Jace said and my stomach flipped.

I knew what was coming and Jace looked at me.

“You want to tell them?” He asked and I nodded.

My heart started pounding. I had spent so much time imagining this moment.

Telling Jace had been terrifying. Telling everyone else somehow felt even bigger and I looked

“I have something to tell you.” I said and everyone became quiet. Sophia was smiling and Charlotte

looked curious.

Emma had one hand over her mouth and mason looked between Jace and me so I took a breath.

“Jace and I are having a baby.” I said.

For one second, nobody moved.

Then the workshop exploded and Emma screamed while Mason grabbed Jace in a hug.

Derek nearly dropped the little girl in his arms because he was jumping around so much.

“You’re going to be a dad!” Derek said as Jace laughed.

“Seriously, congratulations.” Aiden said and Charlotte approached more slowly. She looked at me

with tears in her eyes.

“You’re going to be an amazing mother.” Charlotte said and I smiled.

“Thank you.” I said and she hugged me.

I hugged her back and for a moment, everything else disappeared.

Then I felt Jace’s hand settle against my back and I looked around the room again.

All these people. All these families. All these children. And now our child would grow up surrounded by them.

My eyes filled with tears.

“I can’t believe this.” I said and Sophia walked over and hugged me.

“I can.” She said and I laughed.

“You’ve been waiting to say that.” I said.

“Absolutely.” She said as Jace slipped his arm around my waist.

“We wanted you all here because you’re our family.” Jace said and Derek raised his glass.

“To Paige and Jace.” Derek said and everyone lifted their glasses.

“To the baby.” He added and the children cheered, even though several clearly had no idea what

I laughed as Jace kissed my forehead.

For once, the workshop wasn’t filled with engines, tools, or the smell of oil.

It was filled with laughter. It was filled with family. It was filled with the kind of future I had once thought I would never have.
